Quality Control Supervisor

A Quality Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that products meet established quality standards and customer expectations. They develop and implement quality control procedures, monitor production processes, and conduct audits to identify areas for improvement. They also collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues, provide training to employees on quality standards, and analyze data to identify trends and make recommendations for process enhancements. They lead strategic initiatives that drive safety, quality, on time delivery, and productivity within the Quality Control Department as well as support initiatives that are led by others.  They may provide training, individual development plans, and support to employees on quality-related matters.  The Quality Supervisor plays a crucial role in maintaining high standards and customer satisfaction.

Essential Responsibilities

Supervise inspection department. Schedule and record department safety meetings. Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives, collaborating with other departmental stakeholders as necessary. Develop manpower planning and project assignments for the inspection department. Develop inspection plans for major project programs. Interface with manufacturing, engineering, sales, customers, and shipping stakeholders. Attend production meetings. Attend Sales/Operations meetings for long term planning on workload. Attend pre-inspection meetings with sales and customers. Evaluate performance of all inspection department personnel and develop improvement plans as needed. Maintain adherence to company policies and safety rules. Interview and test inspector candidates. Ensure all test equipment is either maintained or calibrated as necessary and records are kept as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree in a Technical field required Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the industrial electrical field preferred, OR combination of field and equipment manufacturing inspection experience equal to 5 years of total experience Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a leadership/supervisor role required. Knowledge of IEEE standards for Circuit Breakers, Switchgear, Switches, and Transformers. National Electric Code knowledge preferred. Detailed understanding of power system and relay applications.

Skills, Abilities & Other Requirements

Leadership skills with emphasis on driving continuous improvement. Good communication skills across a wide range of different stakeholder groups. Aptitude for training, coaching, and mentoring Quality Control personnel as well as other internal stakeholders. Able to test and inspect products using schematics, wiring diagrams, three-line drawings, one-line drawings and mechanical drawings. Able to apply product knowledge and technical skills to solve complex application problems independently. Ability to write Operating Procedures and Work Instructions as required. Ability to answer technical questions from manufacturing, inspectors, and customers. Ability to interact on a regular basis with manufacturing, inspection, engineering, sales, and shipping personnel. Ability to improve and drive organizational change. Must have basic computer skills using Word, Excel and Access. Able to read and interpret electrical symbols, characters, and drawings. Basic understanding of power system and relay applications as applied to products. Ability to interpret industry standards as applicable to job and product.

Working Conditions

Outdoor/Indoor construction/manufacturing environment primarily temperature controlled. Exposed to electrical, noise, cut hazards etc. Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (i.e., arc flash, safety shoes, hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection ) as required. Must be able to work on platform ladders and other elevated work surfaces at heights greater than four feet.

Physical Requirements

Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs or step ladders Must stand and place body in delicate positions for extended periods of time. Required to use upper extremities frequently, work with both arms above and below shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently. Must be able to meet physical lifting demand up to 50lbs.
