Quality Control Underwriter III (Onsite)

Primary Function

The Quality Control (QC) Underwriter III is responsible for re-underwriting loans files selected for review in accordance with the company’s Quality Control Plan.  Accuracy and timeliness are key to this process.  Results from these reviews are key leading and lagging indicators used by executive management to assess underwriting risk for the organization.

Principal Duties

Conduct reviews in accordance with agency and company standards to include individual analysis of:Loan applicationCredit profile/report(s)Debt and assetsIncome/financial statementsLoan values/loan-to-value ratiosAppraisal reportsCollateral and supporting documentationIdentify loan deficiencies and calculate the risk grade on each (significant, moderate, minor)Provide Operations with a clear picture of the findings noted with required detail to ensure understanding and provide an adequate responseEscalate files with suspected fraud to the Fraud Investigations UnitIdentify quality trends and work with the Quality Control Management Team to recommend and drive corrective actionEnsure compliance with Caliber policies, processes, and practicesPerform other duties and/or participate on department projects as assigned

Education and Experience Requirements  

High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred5-7 years of progressive related experience.Residential mortgage underwriting experienceDE certification; VA LAAP/SAR preferredExperience working with Fannie Mae Desktop Underwriter and Freddie Mac Loan Prospector

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements  

Knowledge of FHA, VA, USDA, Non-QM, FNMA and FHLMC policies and guidelinesKnowledge of mortgage loan processing, compliance, investor products and underwriting guidelinesKnowledge of mortgage insurance (MI) guidelinesWorking knowledge of various fraud toolsStrong interpersonal, oral and written communication skillsExcellent customer service orientationAbility to multi-task, effectively prioritize tasks and responsibilities; effective time managementStrong analytical skills; effective decision making skills with the ability to appropriately exercise independent judgmentStrong quality orientation with an attention to detail and accuracyAbility to work independently, as well as, effectively function as a member of the QC TeamAccountability; strong work ethicIntegrity, ability to maintain and work with confidential informationStrong Microsoft Office skills to include MS Word & Excel
