Quality Engineer (Chaska, MN) Overview: The Motor Quality Engineer supports product and program quality initiatives and monitors quality performance for both the Supply Chain and for internal development and production to ensure effective process control are employed for electric motor production. This role leads root cause analysis and corrective action activities, supports continuous improvement initiatives with ability to present results to customer and management. QE assists in supporting company goals for program Quality and Delivery targets. For the near-term, the role additionally includes performing receiving inspection of components, in-process inspection steps of motor assembly and testing, and final inspection of completed motor datapacks, which should roll off to a separate individual(s) as volume grows within the local facility. Essential or Primary / Key Responsibilities: Develop procedures for the motor components and assemblies to assure compliance to the Marotta and customer specifications Drive and promote AS9100 throughout the facility Plan advance quality strategies and actions to ensure motor manufacturing compliance to technical data package and customer requirements. Ensure quality steps are included in manufacturing documentation, including router steps, assembly procedures, and other related documents. Develop procedures from various industry and aerospace specifications Assure mechanical and electrical measurement methods, techniques, and equipment comply with best practices and specifications Investigate and specify test and measurement equipment Investigate, assess, and resolve production problems in a team environment Represent Quality for Programs / Customers related to motors Review Drawings flowdowns, best practices related to motors Review and approve component FAI’s related to motors Coordinate completion of customer FAI’s related to motors Support in-process product reviews Acceptance Data Package Preparation/ Review Support Audits – Customer / Internal Support customer inquiries, including requests for warranty support, lead corrective action activities Work internally and externally to develop Risk Analysis and Mitigation plans Promote the use of Quality tools, SPC, PFMEA, and MSA to reduce variability Actively participate in cost reduction programs/initiatives related to scrap, rework and repair activities. Provide guidance and training to internal personnel and suppliers to effectively execute Corrective Action Requests (inclusive of SCARs), Quality System requirements, Quality Alerts, Corrective/Preventive Actions (CAPA) implementation, change control and root cause analysis Additional Duties / Responsibilities: Read, understand and interpret Mechanical / Electronic drawings. Perform measurements and visual quality assessments of received items, work-in-progress, and finished goods Approve incoming materials by confirming specifications as per Purchase Orders, conducting visual and physical measurement of the product, rejecting if necessary and processing part thru to the next step Create spreadsheets for data collection and generate tables, graphs, charts to provide guidance to leadership and team members to best interpret the data in order to take action. Attain appropriate knowledge of Work Orders / Routers, Work Instruction, Procedure requirements and other internal documentation. Approve in-process production by confirming specifications, conducting visual and physical measurement of the product, and reviewing paperwork artifacts, communicating adjustments, if necessary, to production supervisor. Approve finished products by confirming specifications, reviewing documentation, conducting visual and physical measurement of the product. Document inspection results by completing reports and logs and inputting data into quality database Always verify equipment is operational and calibrated, follow operating instructions and coordinate repairs Work with Engineering, Operations, and other sources to resolve issues and meet goals Bring initiatives and activities to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction with individuals, both internal and external to the Marotta organization (as required). Maintain and continue to elevate relationships with Business Development, Engineering, Operations, Customer Service and all other facets of the company Abide by all safety, quality, housekeeping and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance to various regulatory and internal system requirements Consistently demonstrate commitment to company values Keep management informed of area activities and of any significant problems Ensure that work area and work areas of direct reports are clean, secure, and well maintained Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required Work Environment: This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing and foot protection (as required). This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are (4 days X 9 hours, Monday-Thursday) + (4 hours, Friday). Overtime and weekend work could be required as job duties demand. Some travel may be expected for this position (up to 10%) once employee is fully trained. Must be able to travel to NJ up to 25% of the time for required training during the first three months of employment. Minimum Required Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field of study 4+ years’ experience in quality-related function (preferred but applicant may be a new college hire) Work experience in data analysis and procedure writing (preferred) Ability to interpret Military, Commercial aircraft and Space level specifications and standards Ability to read and understand schematics and drawings Knowledge of Quality Management System - AS9100, ISO9001, ISO/TS16949 Knowledge of Special Processes -- critical finishes, chemical conversion, soldering, crimping, non-destructive and destructive analysis methods Strong verbal/written communication skills required for multi-faceted interactions with all levels of personnel within the organization, as well as any and all outside agents, including but not limited to; vendors, suppliers, customers, etc. Strong computer literacy, with MS Office/PC expertise, and demonstrated experience with applicable systems, programs, equipment, etc. Must be a US Citizen This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance, therefore you must be able to obtain/maintain a security clearance Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
