Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Role Purpose: 
Proactively addressing customer quality needs, including methods and procedures designed to ensure that Corning’s products meet specifications and that Corning specifications meet/exceed customer requirements. This role focuses on minimizing customer risk by ensuring product capability during initial development and on-going operations of new products and processes in OFC. This role ensures that QA/PQAs are developed and adhered to and updating those systems with new information. This role works closely with plant Quality organizations to support issue resolutions, Technology organizations to aid in new product PQA/QA development, and plant Engineering organizations for capability improvements. 

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:
•    Evaluate the impact of product, process and equipment changes on product attributes and quality architectures.  Focus is on Ribbon Cable.
•    Support development of new ribbon cable technologies by designing quality architecture systems (PQA) and identifying and solving critical quality problems proactively
•    Drives early identification of vulnerabilities or quality issues, assigns ownership, and ensures implementation of actions to ensure improvement
•    Ability to work across various functional groups on a daily basis to accomplish goals 
•    Collaborates with development, engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place. 

 

Required Qualifications: 
•    BS or MS in the following Engineering Disciplines: Materials, Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Ceramic Engineering
•    2+ years’ experience in Manufacturing Environment
•    Good data collection and analysis skills; basic understanding of statistics and control charts.
•    Sound decision-making skills.  Makes decisions based on data.
•    Proven self-starter – able to effectively manage high levels of uncertainty and change

 

Desired Qualifications:
•    Familiarity with Quality Systems (BIQCP, PQA, MSA, FMEA, MCN/MCS)
•    Familiarity with Vision Systems functionality and capabilities 
•    Knowledge of manufacturing process and product attributes, particularly Fiber Optic ribbons.
•    Experience with various statistical packages like SAS and Minitab
•    Six Sigma Black or Green Belt or DMAIC project experience.

The range for this position is  $79,997.00   -  $109,996.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
