Quality Food Safety Specialist

Reporting to the Director of Quality/Food Safety, the Quality Food Safety Specialist is responsible for assisting in maintaining audit-ready compliance to all internal and external Quality Food Safety policies. This includes conducting regular onsite audits, developing and implementing safety programs like HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point)/Food Safety Plan and GMP, and overseeing the testing of products for potential hazards. The specialist investigates customer and consumer complaint incidents, implements corrective actions, and trains staff on proper food handling and sanitation practices. They also maintain thorough documentation of audits and reports, collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety protocols into the supply chain, and assess suppliers to ensure adherence to food safety standards.

This candidate must be able to coach/teach/communicate at all levels from the hourly employees to the facility manager on site and to area vice president.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Onsite Audits: Conduct thorough evaluations and inspections of food safety and sanitation practices at production facilities. This includes reviewing production processes and monitoring records to ensure compliance with food safety regulations. Ensure that all required documentation is accurately completed, verified, and properly maintained. Oversee the rollout and execution of quality and food safety programs at distribution centers. Ensure that these programs align with both internal standards and regulatory requirements. Work closely with Technical and Operations teams to support the successful execution of Quality and Food Safety initiatives and projects. Provide expertise and guidance to ensure alignment with best practices. Regularly review, update, and modify Food Safety Plans as necessary to ensure they remain effective and compliant with evolving standards. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of Safe Quality Food (SQF) programs at local sites, ensuring that all relevant protocols and procedures are followed. Conduct onboarding training for new plant managers, focusing on essential quality and food safety protocols to ensure smooth integration into operations. Assist in the management of operating permits and licenses, ensuring timely renewals and compliance with regulatory requirements. Collaborate with Sales team in customer supplier management programs, attend onsite customer audit as needed. Able to demonstrate the commitment to Arctic Glacier’s Management Systems: Quality/Food Safety, Environment, Safety and Health, and the Leadership Principles utilized by Arctic for managing and improvement. Other duties may be assigned.

 

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field. 2-3 years of industry experience in food manufacturing, preferably in QA/QC or operations. In-depth knowledge of auditing practices for Quality and Food Safety programs, with practical experience in food processing and packaging. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address issues effectively. Ability to work both collaboratively as part of a team and independently. Proficient in applying critical thinking to evaluate and improve Quality and Food Safety programs. Detail-oriented with the ability to meet tight deadlines, manage significant travel, and work well within a team. Capable of multitasking in a fast-paced, confidential environment. Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills. HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) or PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) certification required. Proficient in MS Office Suite, including Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

This role requires travel 30-50% of the time to various locations to perform audits, implement programs, and support site operations.
