Quality Improvement Specialist- Nursing

Our two campuses in Methuen and Haverhill have a total of 320 beds, and we are a full-service, acute care hospital offering comprehensive inpatient medical/surgical units, outpatient care, and 24/7 emergency services. We have three behavioral health units: cardiac telemetry, and critical care service lines. Our Haverhill campus offers all private rooms, and our Methuen campus offers a new state-of-the-art catheterization suite and Joint Center of Excellence, named as a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction+ Center for Knee and Hip Replacement.

Position Summary:

The Quality Improvement Specialist knows and understands the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of Holy Family Hospital’s (HFH) Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement (QAPI) plan. The Quality Improvement Specialist facilitates the QAPI process with the medical staff, Nursing and all Ancillary departments.

The Registered Nurse adheres to the Board of Registration in Nursing rules and regulations, ANA scope and standards of nursing, the ANA code of ethics for nursing, LGH policies and procedures and other regulatory stipulations.

Responsibilities:

Coordinates and facilitates organization performance improvement teams. Maintains team documentation and helps the Chairperson establish agendas and meeting goals. Obtains necessary internal clinical, financial, and operational data for team’s consideration. Seeks out external data sources for benchmarking purposes, and conducts literature searches, if necessary, to identify current standards. Tracks performance on nurse sensitive indicators and other quality initiatives closely. Identifies gaps in the nursing care/documentation. Initiates and leads corrective efforts. Understands data collection techniques and demonstrates knowledge regarding statistical data analysis. Selects appropriate data collection method for PI activities. Provides accurate analysis of data to customers, identifies statistically significant trends. Co-leads and supports the Nursing Practice Quality Council. Works with the Chair(s) to set agendas and goals. Prepares presentations and keeps documentation on the Council proceedings. Assists and trains PI representatives on each unit in quality functions and in data collection. Assures inter-rater reliability among data collectors. Co-leads and conducts nursing peer review for cases flagged by risk or quality. Facilitates further review by Patient Care Services leadership and facilitates corrective action as necessary. Serves as Administrator for the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI). Ensures entry of nursing indicators into the NDNQI on a quarterly basis. Responsible for ensuring accurate nursing data into Patient Care Link. Reviews medical records for quality issues and, as appropriate, refers for physician review.

Qualifications: 

Education: Graduate from an accredited professional School of Nursing Licensure/Certification: Current Massachusetts nursing license

Related Experience:

Required:

Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience. Comprehensive understanding of the science of improvement and rapid cycle testing desired. 2-3 years in Quality Improvement required. Demonstrated skills in patient care, leadership & interpersonal relationships. Professional certification (CPHQ) required within 1 year of hire.

Preferred:

Master of Science in Nursing/Doctorate in Nursing Practice Management experience preferred.
