The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting production inspection activities of Smith + Nephew’s innovative medical devices at our Sports Medicine facility in Austin, Texas. The Quality Inspection team ensures reliable production of safe & effective products for our customers and is expected to lead compliance assessments against design & manufacturing specifications.

What will you be doing?
Responsibilities:
Prioritize, perform, and document incoming quality assurance and in-process/finished goods quality control inspections (components and products) in compliance with Quality Management System procedures and quality control inspection instructions.
Participate in validation/verification processes, gage R&Rs, verification testing, transfers of products, first article inspections, and equipment calibration focusing primarily on the documentation and criteria for acceptance / rejection.
Initiate timely and accurate non-conformance reports to prescribed procedures. Assist in the resolution of non-conformances as required.
Maintain and improve work area according to departmental standards.
Train and/or mentor other technical functions in inspection methods and documentation practices.
Perform other related duties essential to support site or special assignments as required.
Competencies:
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in English.
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel)
Basic arithmetic
Problem solving skills and good common sense to make sound technical decisions.
Read and understand product specifications and drawings, including interpreting & applying acceptance criteria. Familiarity with GD&T a plus.
Familiarity with quality and manufacturing standards including ISO, ASTM
Requires the ability to understand the impact of GMPs, US and International regulation requirements.

Position: 50/50 sitting/standing
Repetitive Motion: Moderate computer use; High: >10 moves/30sec
Chemical Exposure: Uses chemicals sometimes in a day
Physical Risk (Personal Protective Equipment – PPE): Occasional use of PPE may be required.
What will you need to be successful?
Education: Minimum High School Diploma (or equivalent). A 2-year technical degree is preferred.
Experience: Minimum 1-year in mechanical inspection and documentation review required; experience in medical device or regulated industry preferred.
