Position Summary:

Level One: At the direction of the Inspection Supervisor, level one quality inspectors train to develop the ability to use predetermined methods, operations, setups, and prescribed specifications to perform in-process and completed inspection of products such as machined parts, mechanical assemblies, processed parts and purchased standard hardware. They also perform verifications of part identification and configurations. In addition, they will identify and segregate non-conforming product using basic knowledge and understanding of Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing methods, and common inspection measuring equipment including, but not limited to, surface plates, micrometers, height gages, radius gages, protractors, profilometers, bore gauges, and dial indicators as necessary to complete assignments. Level one quality inspectors will demonstrate blueprint reading and basic math skills, basic PC skills, including Microsoft Office. Typically, 0-1 years of experience.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Obtain job assignments from supervisor or manager.Work safely in accordance with plant safety guidelines including cardinal rules of safety.Adheres to quality processes including in-process inspection to ensure compliance with quality specifications.Work with computer operating systems, loading, and manipulating CAD generated models and geometries, collecting and reporting data, word processing, spread sheets, etc.Interpret drawings, process sheets, and CAD models for the purpose of evaluation.Use different types of manual measuring equipment such as Vernier calipers, micrometers, etc.Pulling and interpreting non-conformance reports.Perform required equipment calibration.Perform general housekeeping, operate fork trucks and overhead crane as required, and other related duties as specified by the supervisor.Work in a team environment, i.e., follow instructions and assist others as needed.Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly conditionPerform daily housekeeping / 6S activities as requiredPerforms other duties as requested by supervisor or manager.

 

Required Skills:

Basic ability to interpret process sheets, forging drawings, machine drawings, customer drawings, and complex geometric constructions.Proficient computer skills using additional software such as Microsoft Office applications. Possess outstanding initiative and judgment, and the ability to work on basic inspections, layouts, and measurements. Capable of 3D visualization, establishing and referencing 3D coordinates and axis systems and applying CMS systems within this 3D framework. Intense concentration is required to ensure proper CMS system setups, proper use of tolerances, material offsets, and allowances, so that resultant measurements and reported outputs are accurate and reliable.The ability to perform basic shop math, fractions, decimals, and advanced geometry.The ability to use basic inspection tools such micrometers.The ability to navigate intranet to locate process documents - basic computer skills.Ability to professionally communicate and work cooperatively with othersAttention to detailBasic English language skills and the ability to read, follow, and interpret planning and work order instructionsWillingness to learnMust be the minimal requirement for required internal assessments.US Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required due to government military contracts.

                                                                                                                      

Experience & Education

High school diploma or GED0 – 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment; prior military experience; or technical certification / degree. Prior quality inspection experience a plus.

 

Working Conditions:

Constant exposure to indoor manufacturing environment Constant exposure to moderate noise Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes, odors, hot / cold temperatures, inside / outside noise vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces. Must be able to work any shift including overtime, weekends and holidays if scheduled.

 

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds on a repetitive basis.Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist and work at heights on an intermittent basis for up to twelve (12) hours.Requires hand manipulation including simple grasping, pushing, and pulling of materials.Must be able to safety operate an overhead crane.Must be able to reach and work above and below the shoulder level.Must be able to work with and around forklifts and hazardous machinery.Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.Visual acuity skill to detect any flaws in the parts being inspected.

 

 

Other Requirements:
