The primary responsibility of the position is to ensure a quality product. This shall be done by ensuring that the product produced, and work performed to meet all customer, company, industry, and regulatory requirements. Primary responsibilities and/or essential functions include, but are not limited to:Ensures the repair facility’s quality assurance program and repair practices meet all regulatory requirements.Ensures product quality at the assigned facility meets all customers, company, industry, and regulatory requirements.Implements and manages processes to measure quality and implement corrective actions for continuous improvement based on data provided, procedures, and policies. Develops and trains personnel on quality assurance, special process, and work instruction procedures. Trains supervisors further in quality processes so they can continue to promote quality to improve plant operations.Conducts internal audits of the facility to ensure compliance with company, customer, and regulatory requirements and serves as audit liaison and response coordinator for customers, AAR, and FRA audits.Ensures AAR M1003 quality assurance and AAR M1002 facility certification programs are current and meet customer and regulatory requirements.Participates in and actively supports quality projects, activities, and Responsible Care initiatives to ensure that the Company achieves its goals.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong knowledge of UTC procedures/standards, AAR/DOT regulations, customer procedures and other technical areas such as tank car repair practices, NDT, inspection, welding, tank car parts/components, and coatings.Familiarity with quality process improvement tools such as 5Y, Fishbone, and PDCA is essential for the performance of root cause analysis and development of corrective/preventive actions as well as investigation of customer complaints and audit findings.Willingness and ability to wear safety equipment such as, but not limited to safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hats, earplugs, and respirators.Possess keen visual and audio acuity to recognize various shop danger warning signals to avoid injuries and promote a safe working environment.Ability to enter tank cars via a manway opening for 18” to 20” in diameter and to tolerate confined spaces.Ability to climb ladders to heights of approximately 14 feet high without fear of heights.Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds to set up tables and to attach to tank cars.Possess considerable stamina to perform the essential functions over a large geographical plant area.Ability and availability to work considerable overtime hours that may often be required.Willingness and ability to travel outside of the normal place of work via car, train, and airplane as travel may be required.The incumbent works to epitomize Union Tank Car’s Quality Policy and ensure that subordinates work to meet internal and external customer expectations at all times by fully applying himself/herself and seeing to it that subordinates apply themselves to the task involved, preventing errors, and implementing personal and departmental quality improvement projects. In addition, the incumbent is required to understand the Responsible Care Management System and actively participate in activities outlined therein.Requirements:High School diploma or equivalent required.Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in tank car repair or manufacturing with knowledge of AAR and FRA regulations.
