The Multi-Site Quality & Process Automation Engineer is a direct report of the Siding Products Group Quality & Process Control Director and is a member of Staff. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of automation systems in vinyl siding manufacturing. This includes working closely with cross-functional teams to enhance production efficiency, ensure safety, improve quality, and reduce downtime by automating key processes and improving data collection and analysis. The role involves evaluating, troubleshooting, installing, testing and maintaining automation systems, as well as training on new equipment and systems.
Essential Functions:
Automate Inspections:
Create and set up automated systems using vision systems and robotics for inspecting vinyl siding production. Develop software to spot defects like color issues, surface defects, and dimensional inconsistencies. Integrate these systems with current production equipment and ensure they provide instant feedback to reduce defects.Optimize Processes & Ensure Quality:
Collaborate with the Quality & Process Control team to define critical quality metrics and choose systems to measure them. Analyze inspection data to find trends, reduce defects, and make improvements. Enhance the accuracy and efficiency of inspection systems to reduce errors and increase productivity. Create and apply procedures for inline quality inspection.Monitor & Analyze Processes:
Implement and maintain Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods. Examine process data to spot trends and quality issues. Monitor key process parameters and ensure they stay within set limits. Use SPC tools to analyze data and identify areas for improvement.System Integration & Maintenance:
Connect inspection systems with plant control systems like PLCs and SCADA & Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Troubleshoot and maintain inspection equipment, including vision systems and sensors, to keep them working reliably.Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:
Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to enhance processes based on inspection data. Train staff on using inspection equipment and interpreting data. Lead efforts to improve inspection speed and accuracy while reducing the need for manual checks.
