You ensure quality in the factory and are responsible for meeting quality targets. You are fully responsible for the people, machinery and the identification and elimination of quality losses and problems in the department. You grow your team’s capabilities and coordinates departmental activities in accordance with corporate standards, local requirements and ISO standards. In this role, you report directly to the plant manager with dotted line responsibility to corporate quality.
How you will contribute
You will ensure that all quality objectives, goals and targets in the factory (including regional and global commitments) are met. You will develop and track your department’s budget and eliminate losses. With your team, you will conduct regular plan-do-act-check assessments to plan how targets will be met, executing the plan and periodically checking and taking action to stay on track. In addition, you will ensure that there is strict adherence with all appropriate laws, food safety quality standards and consumer requirements of all manufactured products and manage crisis situations internally and externally in ways that support the company’s image, policies and business. As a people leader, you are responsible for recruitment and structuring of the department to ensure there are sufficient resources to deliver on plant objectives, set and assess performance goals, and coach and mentor team members.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY:
Primary responsibility is to:
Oversee the shop floor operation in the production, packaging and shipping areas. This includes ensuring daily operations are conducted in compliance to corporate and local Quality Policies and SOPs.
Manage hold and release, production batch review and release, traceability exercises, capability building and training.
act as the Quality resource for process and equipment improvement initiatives. This includes but is not limited to coordinating with Engineering, Production, R&D and Continuous Improvement Departments for new equipment installations, building changes, troubleshoot processing issues and drive quality improvement projects.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: (If additional space is needed, attach supplemental sheet)
Drive / Participate in Consumer Complaint reduction projects.
Support development of Equipment Qualification protocols in conjunction with Process Engineers / Reliability and Project Managers.
Conduct routine Gemba walks to provide coaching to Production personnel to ensure that Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Documentation Practices are improved.
Drive/support Quality culture improvement
Work in conjunction with Production & Engineering colleagues to create and revise applicable SOPs and Work Instructions.
Develop/Support productivity strategies that effectively lower controllable costs.
Utilizing the Incident Eradication Work Process conduct & drive root cause investigations, and problem solving in conjunction with Production and Quality to prevent faulty product, consumer complaints and GMP compliance issues
Support hold and release program / investigations
Assist in driving completion of iL6S programs
Assist in completion of Internal / External Audits
Assist in completion of corrective action items as required
Own batch record review and positive release program
Perform and document Mock Recalls according to corporate and ISO requirements
Evaluate current practices against regulations and make appropriate changes to ensure compliance.
Work in safe manner and be aware of potential safety hazards in the department and workplace.
Function as part of the operations and quality work teams, providing assistance to other work areas to accomplish necessary functions and projects.
In conjunction with colleagues, address deviations as required to ensure consumer safety and product quality.
Must be able to prioritize work for maximum time effectiveness and efficiency, and handle a number of situations at one time including concentrating and pay close attention to detail.
Must have the capability and initiative to perform duties without direct supervision.
Must be able to function as part of a team, and work closely with Operations/ Maintenance/ Scheduling to effectively troubleshoot potential issues in a professional manner.
Perform other duties as required as assigned by the Quality Manager.

EDUCATION REQUIRED:
BS Degree in Food Science, Engineering or other technical field or equivalent years of related experience.
SPECIALIZED JOB KNOWLEDGE OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Flexible shifts. Supervisors are assigned core hours, however off shift work may be necessary due to special projects or business demands
Quality Control; knowledge of the Food and Drug Act Regulations (Canada) and other pertinent regulations is essential.
