Position Summary:
Working under the direct supervision of the Quality Food Safety Manager, you will be responsible for quality, food safety and verification of conformance to regularity requirements in support of plant operations. You will provide support to production in making quality decisions, investigations of non-conforming product and providing insight during process upsets. Performing shift work as needed - The Quality Specialist will be the primary individual responsible for covering when other technicians take vacation time. During this time the Quality Specialist will be required to:Complete daily paperworkComplete and send CoAsPhysical testing of production samples and notification of appropriate colleagues when product is not within specificationPerform calibrations and light maintenance on laboratory instruments followed by recording and interpretation of test resultsMaintaining cleanliness of lab while performing shift workMaintaining sample retains of tested product in order to confirm test results when necessaryMaintains ongoing records of the results of all testing procedures and inputs such data into computer daily.Compares test results with standards as required to ensure that all flour is within specificationAssist with collecting, preparing, and distributing test samples sent to and received from internal and 3rd party locations for purpose of calibrating and monitoring equipment and procedures.Purchasing and maintaining a sufficient inventory of lab supplies as well as scheduling 3rd party lab services.Purchase equipment under the direction of the QFS manager.Maintaining ongoing records of the results for all testing results relating to quality and food safety and inputs data into the computer on a frequent basis.Ensuring all required weekly and monthly samples are sent off by lab technicians and that all results are monitored and recorded in appropriate systems.Conduct new hire training and annual refresher training of lab technician responsibilities and testing procedures for all lab technicians.Cross train with Quality and Food Safety ManagerServe as an active member of HACCP teams, up to and including PCQI and Team leader where appropriate. Assist QFS with Implementing the HACCP/Food Safety team’s recommendations in the facilities.Assist QFS in conducting plant quality and food safety audits.Participate in customer and third party audits including GFSI and Regulatory visits.Assist QFS in new hire training and annual refresher training relating to plant quality and food safety expectations.Assist and support the QFS manager in continuous improvement projects and performing more value added work.Notifies the appropriate colleagues in a timely manner of any and all safety or quality concerns.Helps maintain a positive environment and supports the overall goals of the facility and company.Comply with all state and federal regulations as well as customer requirements that pertain to the job.Willingness and ability to learn and understand the production process and facility layout.Perform all duties with limited supervision and ensure that confirmation of completion is communicated to the QFS manager or appropriate colleagues.Have the ability to adapt to change including but not limited too; an increase, decrease or change in assigned responsibilities, learning new equipment or computer programs, changes in testing or sampling procedures, data entry and reporting, collection, testing and distribution of samples.Fills in for the QFS manager or lab technicians as required.Perform all responsibilities in a timely yet safe manner. Ensuring that colleague safety is the first priority over all else and that product quality is never compromised for production.Physical Requirements:Prolonged periods of standing, moving or sitting.Willing and able to spend time in plant (i.e. walk long distances, stand, climb stairs and ladders and move through close spaces) to understand and audit the process.Working in confined spaces and from heights, bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing stairs and ladders.Ability to lift up to 50lbs unassisted.Work in a variety of conditions (heat, cold, dust, etc.).Work Experience: Preferred 4 year degree or High School or GED with equivalent QFS experience in a Food manufacturing and laboratory environmentAnnual TrainingHACCP / PC TrainingPCQI TrainingGFSI TrainingFood Safety and Sanitation TrainingKnowledge of FDA and State Regulatory RequirementsTeam PlayerDecisive and results orientedStrong communication and interpersonal skills to lead, coachStrong analytical problem solving/root cause analysis skillsHighly organizedEffective use of Microsoft office applicationsExcited about this role but don’t meet every requirement listed?
