Quality Tech, Metallurgy Lab

Basic Qualifications: 

Five plus years of laboratory or related metallurgical field experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Able to read and understand blueprints, specifications, and orders. Able to work with precision inspection tools (calipers, micrometers & optical comparators). Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. 

Physical Demands:  

Must be able to lift/move 30 lbs. (may not exceed per EHS policies)  Must be able to stand for long periods of time 

 Preferred Qualifications 

Six years of lab related testing experience.  Aerospace industry experience High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a Quality Tech IV, Metallurgy Lab in our Fullerton, CA location. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

This position ensures that microstructural analysis results conform to relevant specifications and that the microstructures are digitally captured, identified, stored, and processed according to work instructions. Additional activities involve the preparation, grinding, polishing, and etching of metallurgical mounts.  Evaluation of grain size, hardness, surface contamination, alloy depletion shall be performed and recorded on routine processed conforming and non-conforming product and. LERs (Laboratory Evaluation Reports) results are documented.

Performs micro-evaluation, grain size determination, macro examination, micro hardness, phase determination and general metallurgy. Actively communicate the need for continuous quality improvement throughout the workforce. Participate in the development of new processes and quality system improvements. Perform routine lab testing as assigned. Perform hardness inspection and report values Performs metallurgical sample preparation/inspection. Performs other tasks of equal or lesser skill as required.  Other duties and/or responsibilities may be performed as part of cross-training or employee development plan.
