Quality Technician II

Test and analyze every batch of product for quality conformance, making adjustments as required  

Perform quality checks of bulk liquid raw materials  

Maintain adequate records and information on products and raw materials  

Prepare, test and compare experimental samples  

Provide and maintain accurate data and records for raw material evaluations, new product projects and product improvement projects  

Provide basic analysis and conclusion of work performed Quality  

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Follow basic lab safety guidelines and regulations Take direction from the supervisor and complete assignments in a timely manner  Prepare samples using laboratory dispersion and blending equipment Recognize processing issues of lab batches and make appropriate adjustments  Conduct standard tests following Standard Test Procedures including, but not limited to, viscosity, ICI, gloss, tint strength, density, pH, and scrub tests Record and report test results Report problems associated with test equipment or test processes Clean and maintain test equipment, and work area Perform basic laboratory maintenance including, but not limited to, pour back, stocking lab supply, adhesion panel preparation, clean-up Maintain regular communication with the supervisor Conduct standard tests including, but not limited to, Viscosity, Gloss, Solids, Color, Density, pH, Gel tests, and product applications and support reliability testing as required.  Record pertinent data on raw materials and finished products, including product codes and test results. Report problems associated with test equipment and processes.  Clean and maintain testing equipment and alert supervisors regarding low levels of lab supplies.  Consistently follow standard test procedures and manage workload independent of supervisors or other training staff.  Make a routine and accurate corrections to batches that test outside of specifications.  Prepare samples for shipment to other Company laboratories.  Rate panels according to visual standards for appearance and assist in quality investigations of field complaint issues.  Quality Technicians in the Exposure Group also have the following responsibilities: Conduct standard visual ratings tests including, but not limited to, Cracking, Mildew Resistance, Color Fading, Chalking, and Water Beading.  Model work practices for tests conducted by Quality Technician I personnel.  Conduct periodic audits of packaging, finished product, and manufacturing processes and issue audit reports.  

 

Education and Experience 

Educational attainment equivalent to high school graduation Some experience in the preparation and testing of paints  

Educational attainment equivalent to high school graduation,  

Considerable quality control and production testing experience involving paints, varnishes, or general coatings  

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities 

Knowledge of basic lab skills Knowledge of lab safety guidelines and regulations Ability to understand and follow defined testing methods and accurately complete test records Ability to make some analysis and draw conclusions on work performed Knowledge of Behr’s product lines, base, and color system Communication, filing and some computer skills are required  

Maintain regular communications with intra- and inter-department personnel  

Considerable knowledge and familiarity with raw materials and their uses in products  

Considerable knowledge and familiarity with products and test procedures  

Knowledge and literacy of mathematics  

Ability to read, interpret, and follow work rules and specifications  

Ability to consistently set up and operate quality control and testing equipment  

Ability to use effective judgment in testing operations to prioritize incoming samples to best satisfy testing demands  

Ability to organize, file, and maintain quality control inspection and testing records  

Ability to recognize patterns that can affect the quality  

Ability to operate a computer terminal to enter, retrieve, review, or update data  

 

Special Requirements 

Exhibit proficiency in all areas of the Research and Development Technician I classific 

Attainment of passing grade on Quality Technician II proficiency skills test is required
