We are currently recruiting for an intermediate-level Quantity Surveyor to join our busy Group Estates department.

Hours

Full time: Monday – Friday 8.30am – 5pm

Location

This role is based in our vibrant Head Office in Hillington, Glasgow, with three days at the office and two days at home. The role will also involve occasional travel across the UK.

About the role

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will support our Estates department with the delivery and management of projects across the Arnold Clark’s UK-wide estate.

We’re looking for someone with at least three years of post-graduate experience within the commercial sector. Commercial experience within the facilities management sector is desirable but not essential.

If you’re interested in undertaking a full portfolio of commercial tasks over multiple projects, this could be the role for you. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy completing tasks to set timeframes.

Day-to-day duties

Work alongside the project manager to set the project brief and provide commercial advice. Occasionally undertake a project management role – developing the project brief and managing external consultants, the Design team and internal departments to ensure project milestones are achieved in accordance with our programme. Prepare tender documents, contracts, budgets, bills of quantities and other tender/contract documentation. Appoint contractors who work on the construction of the project. Track changes to the design and/or construction work and adjust budget projections accordingly. Manage the contract instruction and variation process, negotiating directly with the contractor. Measure and value the work claimed within contractor payment applications and manage the final account process. Ensure interim certificates are issued, and contractors are paid in accordance with the contract terms. Ensure notices are served, when required, and in accordance with the contract terms. Liaise with the project manager and wider Design team by attending progress meetings. Prepare detailed cost reports as required and update cost records within the internal project management system. Assist the Facilities Management team with the review of small works quotations and advise of commercial procedures. Provide commercial assistance with the running of the department’s minor works, reactive maintenance and electric vehicle charging installations framework agreements.

Essential skills and experience

A Quantity Surveyor degree-level qualification or built environment-related degree with experience of working in a commercial role. Project Management experience within a commercial role is desirable. Applicants must have sound knowledge, understanding and application of the JCT/SBCC suite of construction contracts. Must be IT literate and have experience of Microsoft Office. Must hold a full UK driving licence.
