Primary Objective
This hand-on position will assist in developing innovative products for flooring and other markets; design & build laboratory prototypes; conduct physical and analytical testing.
Major Function and Scope
Perform hands-on work in a laboratory setting to develop new products in support of R&D & company objectives. Design and fabricate lab scale prototypes. Operate laboratory equipment that includes mixers, presses, lamination, molding, casting, and other techniques. Conduct physical and analytical testing of prototypes & products using a variety of standardized test equipment. Conduct installation tests & product reviews. Assist in developing new test methods where applicable. Execute experiments under supervision and document results. Be able to write project reports. Transfer new products & technologies from laboratory scale to pilot and eventually to production scale. Provide process and technical support for R&D projects implemented in manufacturing. Work in a team environment within R&D department. Interface with other groups within R&D as well as with engineering and manufacturing groups across the company. Responsibility for safety & housekeeping of the lab; participate in safety audits. Perform other related duties as required.
Experience and Knowledge Required:
B.S. degree in Materials Science & Engineering/Mechanical/Chemical Engineering or related disciplines required. Background in composite materials and/or related process technologies would be a plus.
1-2 years’ experience working in industrial R&D or academic laboratory setting desired. Recent college graduates will be considered.

Must be able to perform hands-on laboratory work. Must have sound logical & analytical skills, attention to details, strong problem-solving skills, and a demonstrated high level of creativity. Must have excellent communication skills, a strong sense of urgency for completing tasks on time. Must be able to work under supervision, and in a team environment.
