Summary/Objective The R&D Technician/Engineer can work within a dynamic group to meet project goals and timelines. The person in this position must be well organized, detail oriented, and have the flexibility to handle multiple project assignments. This position is responsible for creating R&D for all departments in the plant which includes but not limited to; furniture & marine. 2/3D drawings and layouts using MasterCam, Top Solid Design/Nesting, Lectra, and Solidworks Specifications including foam, vinyl, wood and plastic Cost estimates and bill of materials Nesting for production floor Develop designs for complete seating structures and production programs Plans and executes the presentation of arrangements in graphic form or in detailed scale models Plans, organizes, and coordinates workload to achieve objectives Collects, reads, interprets and sees related reference documents and drawings prepares by other disciplines, vendors or outside sources Ensures compliance with approved design standards to provide quality design, safety, constructability, reliable operation, construction economy and operating convenience Reviews and checks calculations, design models, drawings, and design documents for quality, accuracy, neatness, functionality as observed in finished product audits Assist others with production issues Helps others collect or deliver design and engineering data at job sites or client offices Frequent contact and interaction with production, purchasing, and direct supervisor Competencies Practice safe work habits, follow safety guidelines and support company safety initiatives Availability for field support/ customer visits. Organize all support material and data related to build process. Provide technical input and design ideas to engineering during new product development. Excellent mechanical aptitude Ability to work with minimal direction Read, understand, follow mechanical drawings Metal fabrication Welding- Mig, Tig Creative mindset Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities upon hiring, however, potential direct reports are a possibility. The position requires walking and standing primarily on a level surface for extended periods. Reaching above shoulder height, below the waist, and/or lifting as much as 50 lbs. in a repetitive manner are common. The performance of this position requires exposure to the manufacturing areas were the use of personal protective equipment is mandatory. For the most part ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional equipment as typically found in the manufacturing plant environment, however, working outdoors is sometimes required. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position, and the expected work hours are 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday; weekend and overnight work is also necessary. Travel Local travel maybe expected for this position. Required Education and Experience High school diploma and/or related associates degree in engineering or specific discipline and two years’ experience; or Four years related experience and/or training specialized in drafting, design, and engineering practices; or Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. Preferred Education and Experience Manufacturing/industry experience. Experience working with multiple discipline projects Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office, MasterCam, Top Solid, Lectra 2/3D, and Solidworks Organizational skills, communication proficiency, initiative, thoroughness, and time management Work Authorization/Security Clearance Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
