R&D Laboratory Technician

Summary: The R&D Laboratory Technician will contribute to the R&D Laboratory efforts by following best available analytical practices and GLP (Good Laboratory Practices) to provide accurate and precise testing results. The Technician will support the policies, goals, projects, and objectives of Green Plains R&D.  Individuals assigned to this position will be responsible for the day-to-day testing and procedures as identified by the R&D Laboratory Manager. The individual must be detailed oriented and capable of closely following R&D laboratory procedures and protocols. The individual may be assigned to special projects to aid in method and protocol development. The employee will report directly to the R&D Laboratory Manager.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate laboratory equipment. Perform sample collection, receipt, preparation, and analysis per prescribed procedures. Monitor use and inventories of laboratory chemicals and supplies. Collect and send samples to outside laboratories for analytical testing when necessary. Accurately document and ensure the integrity of all testing and calibration results. Promptly communicate abnormal results and laboratory nonconformances to R&D Laboratory Manager as applicable. Investigate abnormal results and laboratory nonconformances as assigned. Prepare reports and analyzes data when applicable. Follow safety, health and environmental policies and procedures. Comply with all regulations and certifications that the laboratory adheres to. Complete all required safety training and helps champion safety compliance within the facility. Follow programs and procedures required to ensure laboratory cleanliness and safety. Communicate professionally and effectively with fellow coworkers. Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested by management.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field (Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology) is preferred. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, an Associates degree in a scientific field with a minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience will be considered. Experience with automated laboratory equipment (HPLC, GC, NIR, IC, LC/MS, GC/MS) is preferred. To perform this job successfully, an individual must have expertise and proficiency in office computer software (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Must have the ability to work efficiently with computerized laboratory equipment. Occasional travel may be required. Valid driver’s license required.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

The employee must occasionally lift and/move up to 50 lbs. The employee may be exposed to dusty conditions. The employee may be exposed to high noise environments. The employee may be exposed to chemicals used in the process Occasional overtime and weekends may be required to meet R&D project timelines.
