As the R&D Manager, you will lead a team of Engineers to continually improve and develop AVEVA’s Cloud solutions, including release and deployment processes and pipelines, enhancing, and supporting our monitoring capabilities, and diagnosing and resolving cloud infrastructure incidents to optimise uptime and allow us to scale through repeatable and standardised work practices. In addition to technical leadership, you will play a key role in the team planning, organisation, and co-ordination, both in your and close liaison with other CDO teams located in UK and US. You will evaluate and select the appropriate cloud technologies and tools, implement DevOps best practices, and establish monitoring and performance metrics to ensure optimal system performance. Your ability to mentor and develop your team will be essential in building a high-performing DevOps function that is agile, responsive, and capable in designing, developing, and maintaining the security, governance, reporting and operational monitoring frameworks used for AVEVA’s cloud products. The global, 24x7 nature of the team means there may be a requirement for occasional work outside of the standard day and to be on call as part of a shared team rota. **Key responsibilities** + To administer, motivate and facilitate direct and indirect reports for them to achieve the optimum individual performance and contribute to overall group and wider department performance. + To be a strong and active practitioner of agile software development processes and practices and ensure they are adhered to by the entire team. + To ensure team met readiness criteria and actively participate in pre-planning activities and during PI planning event to ensure team commitment to delivery of an agreed PI plan and subsequent delivery in proceeding PI. + Coordination with development manager colleagues in product scrum team/s, cross-team initiatives to share knowledge and best practice principles and techniques. + Proactive input to regular 1:1 weekly meeting with manager and subsequent follow-up actions and in turn 1:1 meeting with your direct reports. + Carry out all required appraisal and objective setting responsibilities in line with AVEVA HR and R&D function guidelines. + To identify and communicate key risks that need to be effectively communicated upwards to management along with associated action plans to mitigate risk. + Develop and maintain native cloud tooling and services to ensure secure and efficient operations, in both AWS and Azure. + Work with development teams to advise and contribute to security improvements, cloud architecture, operational stability, cost management and reporting requirements for our cloud solutions. + Independently learn, gain expertise and then lead implementations of new capabilities and tools supporting security and infrastructure governance and monitoring. + Provide timely and effective response to incidents, particularly security incidents, to minimise the impact on our customers and keep colleagues updated as required. + Continually develop and improve DevOps processes and tooling. + Proactively manage cloud environment security to minimise service impacting issues. + Ensure new services meet required security and operational readiness standards before being accepted into operations. + Ensure on-going compliance to security practices and policies. + Provide subject matter expertise to business stakeholders as required. + Stay current on security industry trends, tools and best practices. + To undertake the role of Scrum master responsibilities, ensuring that projects are delivered in line with AVEVA’s use of Agile methodologies and modern tooling, promoting best practices and behaviours that produce results as needed. **Ideal experience** + Ability to learn and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment. + A minimum of 7 years’ experience in Software Development and Design using modern web technologies and supporting toolsets including source control, static code analysis and CI/CD tooling. + Experience of automated deployment techniques for Cloud infrastructure creation and management, with particular focus on Terraform and Azure Service Operator (ASO). + Extensive experience with cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS. Must be willing to work on and learn both Azure and AWS. + Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor cross-functional teams, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement. Experience managing remote or geographically dispersed team is a plus. + Strong background in automating cloud infrastructure and deployment processes using scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell, Bash, Python) and automation frameworks. + Deep understanding of cloud security principles, compliance standards, and best practices for securing cloud environments. + Experience in monitoring, analysing, and optimizing the performance of cloud-based applications and infrastructure to ensure high availability, reliability, and cost efficiency. + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels of the organization. **Great skills to have** + Knowledge of REST, API, microservices and serverless architecture. + Strong experience in C# and Microsoft .NET Core with a focus on full stack development. + Experience using Kubernetes, Helm and ideally exposure to GitOps practices + Experience with monitoring and alerting. + Hands on experience working within an information security accredited framework e.g. ISO27001, 27017/18. + Experience working in Agile software development such as Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). + Experience of Linux operating systems with a strong focus on automation, command line and scripting. **The team you’ll join** “Our team is doing some of the most exciting work at AVEVA: working with a broad range of cloud technologies and services across multiple platforms, keeping our customers and AVEVA safe and secure.” –Phil Bailey (manager) **R&D at AVEVA** Our global team of 2000+ developers work on an incredibly diverse portfolio of over 75 industrial automation and engineering products, which cover everything from data management to 3D design.
