About the Role
The R&D Packaging Expert EMEA develops and specifies new and revised packaging solutions and implements process improvements within the regional scope, under the general supervision of the Regional R&D Packaging Lead. He/she has in-depth knowledge of packaging components and processes and their related testing and documentation.
Key activities include:
+ to add business value through packaging big bet innovation and renovation projects,
+ to generate cost savings through smarter and optimized packaging solutions,
+ to reduce packaging customer complaints,
+ to introduce and further develop sustainable packaging solutions.
Key Responsibilities Include
+ Support the development of a packaging portfolio strategy at a regional level.
+ Identify packaging needs from business/market/customer needs and transform them into innovation opportunities for Barry Callebaut through the Innovation funnel.
+ Explore and monitor new innovation possibilities of various (packaging) suppliers and use these to introduce step changes in quality, sustainability, or ways of working.
+ Translate (complex) packaging challenges in a defined need for new materials/capabilities & investments (business case).
+ Define, design, and implement holistically (innovative) packaging concepts, taking all internal/external factors into account.
+ Co-creates with other departments (engineering, quality) the required process engineering for new packaging.
+ Lead the implementation of new packaging on BC production line(s), deliver material specifications & validation, and hand over tothe Supply Chain (after commercial start-up).
+ Be SPOC in one or several packaging families/topics, in the region and beyond (through our Centers of Excellence).
+ Train people on current processes, packaging concepts, and packaging/product quality requirements.
About You
+ Technical Degree in Science or (packaging) engineering or equivalent by experience
+ Minimum 10 years of experience in the field of developing and launching packaging concepts in an industrial environment.
+ Complex project management and related communication skills
+ Fluent in English, additional languages are a plus
+ Experience and knowledge of 2D visualization software packages is a plus
+ Solid packaging knowledge, (partly) built in the food industry
+ Strong project management skills
+ Strong analytical & conceptual reasoning skills
+ Ability to translate ideas and concepts into a sales pitch/business case, ready to be presented to a wider audience
+ Ability to manage multiple, complex objectives/projects autonomously Ability to influence R&D peers (without direct leadership) and Director / VP functions
+ Flair for networking
+ Ability to work in multi-functional / multi-cultural teams
