R&D Packaging Specialist

About the role:

The R&D Packaging Specialist develops and specifies new and revised packaging solutions and implements process improvements within the regional scope, under the general supervision of the Regional R&D Packaging Lead. He/she has in-depth knowledge on packaging components and processes and their related testing and documentation. Key activities include:

to add business value through packaging big bet innovation and renovation projects, to generate cost savings through smarter and optimized packaging solutions,  to reduce packaging customer complaints,  to introduce and further develop sustainable packaging solutions.
 

Key responsibilities:

Identify packaging needs from the business, production facilities, and customer complaints and transform them into packaging improvements. Translate packaging challenges in a defined need for new materials and capabilities. Define, design, and implement packaging improvements, taking all internal/external factors into account.  Drive cost reduction through rationalization of packaging materials and supplier diversification. Assess requests from a technical point of view, and discuss the feasibility of projects with Operations, QA, Engineering, Sourcing, and R&D. Initiate and lead the implementation of new packaging materials, and concepts on BC production line(s). Define appropriate trial protocols and lead trial execution, collection of results, and analysis. Align and inform all departments on project progress, roadblocks, and next steps. Be SPOC in one or several packaging families / topics, in the region. Train people on current packaging concepts and processes. Regular travel +/- 25%

 

About you:

Technical degree in Science or (packaging) engineering or equivalent by experience. Minimum 5 years of experience in the field of developing packaging concepts and launching packaging projects in an industrial environment. Project management skills. Fluent in English, additional languages are a plus. Experience and knowledge of 2D visualization software packages is a plus. Good packaging knowledge, partly built in the food industry (B2B or B2C). Attracted by working on packaging concepts, materials, and solutions. Good packaging knowledge, (partly) built in the food industry. Strong analytical & conceptual reasoning skills. Ability to translate ideas, offered solutions, and concepts into a functional packaging concept running on a packaging line. Ability to manage multiple projects autonomously, setting the right priorities.
