THE POSITION:

As an R&D Scientist working at the R&D Department in Maastricht you will be leading developments of new breakthrough concepts in the field of Packaging, Specialty papers and new adjacent fields, with strong focus on project management of  the related complex projects. You will operate in a fast paced and interdisciplinary environment having to manage a broad range of responsibilities. As an R&D Scientist you will work on product development together with commercial teams, manufacturing, legal department, suppliers and external Institutes.

 MAIN ACTIVITIES OF THE JOB:

Plan and execute complex development projects in cross-functional teams, balance budgets and assure efficient realization of targets Contribute to the product and technology strategy of Sappi, create competitive advantages and generate new business opportunities Communicate complex technical matters effectively to technical and non-technical people, adjustment of the content and level of detail to the audience (e.g. writing reports, presenting, etc.) Create strong internal and external networks in order to execute projects effectively Manage stakeholders on different levels of the organization Ensure effective transition of high TRL developments from R&D to manufacturing Setting up experimental programs of standard to high complexity

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Master or phD degree (equivalent or higher) in wood chemistry, paper making, natural sciences, (bio-) material science, engineering or related subjects. Experience in complex technical development work in related fields Ability to identify “out of the box” opportunities and pursue them with an entrepreneurial spirit Excellent collaborator and communicator    Self-reliant, proactive and structured way of working Proven capabilities in stake holder management Very high level of English (written, verbal and comprehension)
  Advantage: Work experience in fields such as wood, pulp, paper, packaging & specialties, (nano and /or micro) cellulose, lignin or polysaccharides   Proven ability in project management Proven ability to lead and coach people
