R&D Executive Engineer

Your role and responsibilities

Develops or creates products, systems, services, or technologies for ABB´s business units by leading/facilitating the end-to-end execution of one or more Research and Development (R&D) projects to achieve associated milestones, targets, and desired outcomes. •\tLeads and supports local and cross-functional project teams, including associate R&D project managers, in projects with limited complexity and / or sub-projects of a complex project.•\tMotivates and monitors internal and/or external resources to accomplish all committed targets.•\tFosters a positive team environment, technical excellence, and continuous attention to quality and built-in quality practices.•\tEnsure objectives, priorities, key decisions, and status are effectively communicated to all stakeholders.•\tAccountable for the end-to-end planning, coordination, execution, and delivery of assigned project(s).•\tOversees / facilitates the development and management of cost, schedule, quality, and performance objectives for projects.•\tIdentifies and manages interdependencies between projects and project level constraints to realize specified benefits.•\tEnsures appropriate prioritization of requirements within a project by partnering with relevant business unit/s or other customers.•\tEnsures team understanding of customer value in the projects and acts to customer satisfaction and manage stakeholder expectations.•\tEngages stakeholders in defining value and integrates feedback into activities.•\tEnsures that project activities are effectively prioritized, estimated, and planned.•\tMonitors and controls progress on the plan to ensure achievement of commitments and targeted milestones/stage-gates.•\tEnsures efficient utilization of available resource capacity and proactively addresses critical resource bottlenecks and project constraints.•\tAnalyzes project budget and estimates.•\tMonitors and controls progress, cost/financials, and quality.•\tReports to and takes directives from the steering committee or other governing body and provides them and other key stakeholders with regular and open communication to ensure transparency and awareness of progress and issues.•\tEnsures issues, conflicts, and impediments are resolved at the appropriate level (i.e., team, project), escalating them as required.•\tApplies appropriate project management tools to manage and optimize execution and value delivery.•\tUtilizes the appropriate metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to provide early detection of project deviations, and facilitates data-driven decision-making and transparency.•\tFormalizes acceptance of project deliverables and closure of all project elements based on the definition of done.•\tEnsures transparency around change requests, unforeseen results/events and identified risks.•\tEnsures that changes, risks, and issues are properly assessed, managed, and communicated.•\tDocuments key assumptions and corresponding risks.•\tEnsures that all opportunities are captured and acted upon.•\tServes as the key contact and escalation point for project stakeholders.•\tEffectively engages and communicates appropriate information to stakeholders in a timely manner to achieve desired buy-in, understanding and support.•\tCoaches and mentors teams, associate R&D Project Managers and other stakeholders in good project execution / development practices and mindsets.•\tModels and promotes team collaboration within R&D, as well as between R&D and Product Management and other functions/stakeholders.•\tPartners with business managers, steering groups, Product Management, and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure execution alignment and predictability to optimize value delivery.•\tEnsures projects follow sound methodology and execution practices, aligned with desired development model (e.g., predictive/waterfall, iterative/agile, hybrid) and in accordance with applicable ABB internal directives and procedures as well as external standards, etc., that influence activities and targets.•\tServes as advocate and change agent for driving desired ways of working (e.g., lean, agile, Scrum, SAFe) and relentless improvement.•\tEnsures project/team retrospectives are routinely conducted and corresponding lessons learned are captured and widely shared on a regular basis (i.e., at the achievement of key milestones/gates, completion of program increments).•\tManages, and expands relationships with stakeholders, internal functions, Corporate Research Centers, and external relevant parties (e.g., customers, academia).•\tParticipates and encourages participation of R&D Associate Project Managers in Communities of Practice.
