We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Workshop Engineer to join the Development Engineering group based at our state of the art site in Witney.

The Opportunity:

In this role, you will play a key part in the manufacture of bespoke / one-off parts used within our manufacturing and testing departments. Working in a clean, high specification workshop using high end machinery. You will support in the development and manufacture of innovative proof of concept projects, as well as in house designed purpose-built equipment that support R&D, and the manufacturing of test strips and glucose sensors. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, scientists, and project managers to ensure the successful execution of projects.  Projects will vary in scale ranging from benchtop proof of principle prototypes to full scale process equipment incorporating PLC, HMI, Motion Control, Vision Systems, Instrumentation and PID control.

About You:

To be successful, you will be an Apprentice trained Mechanical Engineer, with a strong background in precision engineering. You will bring skills in both manual Milling/Turning and CNC 3 Axis Milling (ability to program, set and operate), and ideally be familiar with the use of 4/5 Axis CNC Milling , TIG welding and Wire eroding equipment. You will be used to working to tight tolerances and be comfortable in independently producing one off parts to drawing from Aluminum, Stainless Steel and Engineering Plastics. The ideal candidate will be a proactive individual who takes initiative and is able to work within a small team but interact on a wider business scale. You will need to have excellent communication and time management skills, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment. The ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously is key – it’s an exciting time of growth here at Abbott and you’ll be exposed to a variety of work packages.

The site has been instrumental in the research, development and manufacture of the FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System as well as exciting developments in the Libre family including FreeStyle Libre 2, FreeStyle Libre 3 and the Libre Sense system.
