Our core values (https://www.albemarle.com/about/our-values) are the foundation that make us successful for ourselves, our customers and the planet. **Job Description** Albemarle Corporation seeks an R&T Engineer V to assess the fundamental material and energy balances for a complex commercial production process, identify opportunities for process improvements, and perform preliminary technical screenings of solutions to achieve the identified improvement. Complete process design specification sheets for new process equipment and instruments, and develop FEL 3 process design packages that will achieve the overall project objective. Develop plans for New Johnsonville R&T capital projects, including new equipment, initiate management of change, develop new operating procedures and train manufacturing personnel on the specifics of all changes related to capital projects. Develop process simulations to model systems to predict performance of kinetic reactors, equilibrium reactors, liquid hydraulic systems, vapor transfer systems, heat exchangers and other heat transfer processes, distillation columns, absorbers, strippers, and other miscellaneous unit operations. Serve as technical process expert for Process Hazard Analyses to assess the severity and consequences of credible process scenarios, identify those process safety gaps, and propose technical solutions to reduce risk to acceptable levels. #LI-DNI Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field, followed by 5 years of progressively responsible experience within a chemical engineering or related field; In the alternative, the employer will accept a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field, and 3 years of experience within a chemical engineering or related field. Experience must include a minimum of: 2 years of experience with modeling and designing basic process equipment including centrifugal pumps, positive displacement pumps, kinetic reactors, equilibrium reactors, distillation columns, absorption columns, stripping columns, shell and tube heat exchanges, centrifuges, and filters; 2 years of experience with converting complex processes into a step-by-step material and energy balance that converges and closes; 2 years of experience with assessing both the likelihood and severity of process safety events and proposing and implementing technical solutions to mitigate risk to acceptable levels; 2 years of experience with troubleshooting plant process issues related to production rates, product quality, process safety, environmental compliance and raw material utilizations; 2 years of experience with writing technical reports at the end of project phases to document project details; 2 years of experience with delivering technical presentations; and 1 year of experience working with process simulation software including Aspen, ChemCad, or similar to model common unit operation and achieve full convergence to an accurate result for pumps, heat exchangers, reactors, and distillation columns.
