WE LOVE OUR WORK. Must assist with all the morning work in the Racing Secretaries' Office.  This work includes; rider changes, producing the next day's program, getting entries filled and getting the overnight completed for the following race day.Must act, at times, as Placing Judge. These duties include gathering all scratch information and changes and coordinating that data into the information system which produces the official track program and proof read all data entry.During the race help keep patrons informed of the top four horses by posting numbers on the tote board and TV screens throughout the race until the horses are near the wire at which time the boards are cleared. As the horses cross the finish line the judges mark the order in which they have viewed. Verify the order of finish with the aid of the photo finish cameras and order photo to be printed for TV display if needed.Must act, at times, as Paddock Judge.  These duties include observing the horses in the paddock prior to the running of a race, and records equipment used on the horses for racing, also ensures that a responsible trainer or groom is in the paddock to saddle the horse and prepare it for the race.  The Paddock Judge is also involved in seeing that a published workout is in the program or announced if not available by press time.Must act, at times, as Identifier.  These duties include being responsible for foal papers, coggins test results and tattoos to be sure the correct horse is running in any given race.  The identifier goes to the paddock at race time and checks each horse's tattoo.Must act, at times, as Patrol Judge. These duties include gathering, soliciting and processing a sufficient number of horses from horsemen to card the required amount of races. Assisting the Stewarts by viewing the races from a designated stand and submits to them the information regarding any infractions noticed in that area.Must act, at times, as Clerk of Scales. These duties include processing the jockey's riding assignments, verifying the weight assigned is carried by the rider by weighing them on the scale and relay information regarding any changes to the Stewarts and public via the track Announcer.When no rider is named for a horse or when a rider chooses to ride a horse other than the one he is named on, the Clerk seeks to get a replacement rider from the trainer or name one if the trainer cannot be reached. Verify that each rider scheduled to ride is in the jockey's quarters at the required times.Must act, at times, as Claims Clerk.  These duties include delivering claim envelopes to the Steward Stand prior to the race to ensure the person trying to make the claim is in good standing with the Licensing and Bookkeeping Offices.  Once the claim is approved by the Stewards, the Clerk returns to the racing office with claim and follows up on what needs to be done, particularly if more than one person is trying to get the same horse. One to two years of prior experience in the Horse Racing Industry.Must have ability to read a Condition Book.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of the Pennsylvania Rules of Racing.Must have outstanding guest service skills.Must qualify for a license with the Pennsylvania State Racing Commission and meet any credentialing requirements of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
