The Staff Technologist provides patient services using imaging modalities, performs radiographic procedures, applies principles of radiation protection and the ALARA principle, exercises professional judgment in the performance of procedures, provides patient care essential to radiographic procedures, recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate action and initiates life support measures, establishes and maintains a good rapport and professional relationship with fellow employees, other departments and the Medical Staff. Performs radiology services “on call” as needed. Licenses/Certificates: Current Texas Department of State Health Services Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist License, American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) certification in Radiography (R) or within twelve months from hire date; current AHA/ARC BLS certification required upon hire. + Performs procedures according to departmental protocol as established by Radiologist(s); understands procedure preparation for general radiology + Introduces self to patient and patient’s family if appropriate; communicates with the patient, explains the procedure(s), alleviates anxiety. + Presents examination education to the patient prior to the exam, gives post procedure instructions pertinent to the exam performed. + Interviews the patient to obtain patient’s medical history or important information regarding the nature of the exam being performed; documents that information appropriately + Demonstrates the ability to utilize the Carestream CR. + Demonstrates the ability to utilize the Carestream PACS. + Critiques images prior to submitting for interpretation. Monitors film quality; maintains film repeat rate of 5 percent or less. + Utilizes appropriate film markers (ie: Mitchell Markers, scout film, time, portable stickers, etc.) + Utilizes shielding /collimation to minimize patient radiation exposure, complies with Radiation Safety Procedures and ALARA principles; monitors own radiation exposure. + Assists the Radiology manager with departmental Quality Assurance. + Cleans radiographic equipment as required. + Transports mobile x-ray equipment to ER, patient’s rooms and surgery. + Transports patients in a safe manner; demonstrates proper body mechanics and lifting techniques; requests assistance as needed.
