Radar Signal Processing Engineer-Associate Staff
Position Description

MIT Lincoln Laboratory is seeking a talented candidate to join our dynamic team as a Radar Signal Processing Engineer. As a member of the Airborne Radar Systems and Techniques group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, you will work on high-performance sensor systems as part of a team with diverse technical backgrounds. We prototype radar and imaging sensors for wide-area surveillance, experiment with new radar technologies, and work to mature algorithms for detecting and imaging objects in difficult environments.

Projects typically involve a mix of system analysis, hardware and software development, and algorithm design. Multidisciplinary teams work together to understand foundational physics, design and build one-of-a-kind sensor systems, architect and execute flight test data collections, develop and integrate novel processing techniques, and explore advanced countermeasures that degrade sensor performance.

Early career candidates are strongly encouraged to apply, and if selected, will work with experienced group members to learn about our mission areas and identify career growth paths. We're particularly interested in candidates with a background in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field, who bring an interest and foundation in signal processing techniques. Experience with radar systems, remote sensing, or signal/image processing applications, their components, and associated challenges is desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

Analyze and interpret radar data sets to extract meaningful insights and enhance system performance Contribute to signal processing algorithm development process using MATLAB and Python Partner with experienced mentors to implement and evaluate physics-based and AI/ML techniques for automatic target recognition, signal denoising, target tracking, and interference mitigation Collaborate on the design and execution of experiments for ground-based and airborne sensors Prepare technical documentation (status reports, test plans, interface control documents) and deliver technical presentations

Desired Qualifications

Master’s Degree in relevant field or Bachelor’s with 5+ years of relevant work experience. Experience with digital and statistical signal processing, machine learning, and/or image processing techniques. Proficiency in either MATLAB or Python (or both).  Proficiency in other programming languages, such as C/C++, is desirable but not required Familiarity with RF hardware (amplifiers, antennas, filters), digital processing, and/or control systems (FPGAs, GPUs, CPUs) is desirable but not required. Willingness to travel for field testing and project meetings. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills Ability to be productive independently as well as in a team environment.

Join us in an academically stimulating environment where you'll have the opportunity to apply your expertise to real-world challenges in radar signal processing. We value diversity and encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds. If you're ready to join a team with a passion for pushing the boundaries of radar technology, we'd love to hear from you!
