A. Duties
Under direct supervision, in accordance with the Station Operating License, Technical Specifications, and Operating Procedures, performs radiological testing in Station and surrounding areas; performs functions involved with decontamination of personnel and equipment; calibrates instruments involved in the work; performs duties such as:
Collecting gas, liquid and solid materials in all parts of the Station and surrounding areas; analyzing samples for radioactivity level; designating areas with respect to proper posting; Operating and calibrating instruments used for detecting alpha, beta, gamma, and neutron radiation;Implementing radiation clearance procedures and radiation safety in operation and maintenance activities; Participating in preparation of radioactive material for safe containment during shipment; Assigning and controlling the use of licensed radioactive sources; Ensuring the work area and equipment are in good order and cleaned up after completion of work;Instructing and training employees in the work;Being responsible for the preparation of records in connection with the work;Assisting in reporting errors, and making suggestions for improvement of Station procedures and tests;Reporting abnormal conditions observed or encountered, such as abnormal operating conditions, safety conditions and violations of security procedures;Performing all work in accordance with prescribed safety rules and regulations, and those associated with Station emergency procedures;Performing similar or less-skilled duties, as assigned; andWorking with employees in higher classifications and performing other duties in accordance with the Section of the Foreword to the Job Manual entitled “Duties”.B. Qualifications
Must meet the Company’s requirements as to General Qualifications and
Must have two (2) years’ experience in health physics or equivalent activities; Must be a high school graduate, having completed courses in physics, chemistry, and algebra, or the equivalent, and must have the following prescribed courses, or the equivalent:General chemistry, and Health physics fundamentals;Must demonstrate they can operate survey equipment; Must be familiar with the principles of operation of survey equipment;Must be physically well-coordinated in order to perform the test procedures and job coverage employed in the plant;;Must satisfactorily progress in and complete the prescribed training courses required by the Company, or any regulatory agency; and;Must be able to operate a Company motor vehicle in accordance with its safety regulations and hold a valid State of Ohio, Bureau of Motor Vehicles operator’s license.Additional qualifications include:
Must have two (2) years’ experience as Assistant Radiation Protection Technician, or the equivalent;Must have demonstrated ability in the performance of the duties of Assistant Radiation Protection Technician;Must have met the Company’s requirements for satisfactory completion of prescribed courses;Must have a thorough working knowledge of: The Company’s and regulatory agencies’ safety rules as applicable to nuclear power plant operations; The techniques and procedures for decontamination of tools, equipment, and other materials; The methods and procedures of safeguarding Station personnel and equipment from excessive radiation exposure; Conventional and radiological health safety practices; The Company’s electrical, mechanical and radiation tagging and posting rules; Principles of nuclear reactor operations, and Procedures used in the Station;Must satisfactorily progress in and complete the prescribed training course required by the Company, or any regulatory agency; andMust have the ability to receive, interpret and pass on orders and instruction in a manner that will maintain harmony and safety and obtain cooperation and satisfactory work results from individuals assigned to the work.
