A Part-Tim Radiation Therapist (1 day per week & optional vacation coverage)

WHAT YOU NEED: 

CA License to Practice Radiation Therapy 

Experience with SRT and SBRT 

Experience with animals a plus 

Basic computer skills 

Ability to read, speak, and hear sufficiently to understand, and complete tasks instructed in all forms of communication, written, verbal or other 

Provide information in person & over the phone communicating clearly, appropriately & professionally 

Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, work on the floor as well as ability to lift up to 25kg on own and able to support up to 50 kg with assistance.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO DO: 

Treat patients and clients with the highest level of compassion, respect and care 

Ability to build long term relationships with patients and their families 

Work with a Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator for the treatment of Veterinary patients 

Deliver, accurately, a prescribed course of therapy as directed by the Radiation Oncologist. 

Observe radiation safety measures for the patient and staff. 

Daily QA procedures and warm ups for machine 

Set up, imaging, and delivery of daily patient radiation treatments  

CT simulations for radiation treatment planning 

Discussions with owners about radiation therapy and potential side effects, answering general questions on radiation therapy 

Willingness to learn new skills in a very highly specialized area of veterinary medicine 

Perpetuate teamwork to ensure the best possible patient and client care 

Work alongside radiation team, who are responsible for all aspects of RT nursing care:  checking in patients, Dr. exams, IVC placement, anesthesia, treatment, recovery, and discharge of patients 

Be trained to properly handle and restrain veterinary patients for necessary treatments 

Be trained to properly perform all aspects of Veterinary CPR using the latest guidelines set forth by the RECOVER Initiative 

Coach & guide veterinary assistants and technicians to perform clinical tasks to maintain standards of care and encourage growth. Collaborate & share knowledge w/team to ensure optimal patient care

VCA Animal Hospitals offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including Medical/Dental/Vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, pet care discounts, paid vacation, holidays and sick days, health and well-being programs that provide resources and training. Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials. The pay range for this position is $55 to $65 per hour.
