Radiation Therapist

The Radiation Therapist is responsible for delivering accurately planned courses of radiotherapy to patients while applying the principles of radiation protection and exercising professional judgment in the delivery of treatments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.

Perform prescribed Radiation Oncology procedures to patients Always demonstrate respect for patient modesty and confidentiality; always use complete discretion when discussing patient matters Always remain acutely aware of the emotional and physical needs or requests for each patient by recognizing and responding to the observed needs and taking the necessary time to ensure that needs are met Remain knowledgeable to the needs and concerns in various age groups, from adolescents to geriatrics Maintain an expert working knowledge of hospital equipment and procedures as they relate to radiation oncology; monitor any and all medical equipment which is used in treating patients for malfunctions, uncleanliness, and defects Always double check settings with the treatment chart before activating the treatment machine Utilize the C.T. Simulator in an efficient manner to perform all simulation procedures using extreme accuracy in positioning and immobilization techniques Perform warm up and clinical duties in high dose rate after loading radiation treatments Perform block cutting, pouring, and electron cut-out manufacturing in the block room Obtain image-guided radiation therapy scans and digital portal images to ensure accurate positioning and radiation exposure Maintain current data in the Radiation Oncology Electronic Medical Record by scanning, importing, and exporting records; maintain the integrity of written medical records at all times Organize and Maintain clean environment in the Cancer Center's Clinical Areas Take an active role in performance improvement by participating in teams and suggesting process changes to enhance the services of the Cancer Center Assure that all customers' needs and expectations are met or exceeded Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care

 Education and Experience

Minimum Required Education: High school diploma and successful completion of a Radiation Therapy Program

Experience: 2+ years as a Radiation Therapist is preferred, but not required

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Applicants must be registered through ARRT to work as a Radiation Therapist in the Commonwealth of Virginia
