Radiation Therapist
**Job Summary** The Radiation Therapist position is responsible for delivering precise radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by a Radiation Oncologist. This involves the accurate setup and operation of radiation equipment, monitoring patient responses during treatment, and ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the radiation therapy process. **Essential Functions** + Performs maintenance on all assigned equipment and machine. + Perform radiation machine operations as required. + Performs maintenance and file system of films and patient records. + Maintains and prepares rooms, equipment, and materials for patient care as needed and as required by supervisor. + Assesses treatment rooms to assure all equipment is operational and quality checks have been performed. + Prepares treatment room and equipment for patients according to prescription regarding immobilization devices, field size, treatment distances, shielding devices, gantry and/or collimator angles, etc. + Performs quality assurance procedures and reports any deficiencies to supervisor and/or physicist. + Performs quality assurance warm-up tests on treatment units and simulators; corrects minor faults and/or initiates corrective action following established protocols. + Implements and delivers the prescribed planned course of radiation therapy utilizing megavoltage equipment, adhering to acceptable departmental, institutional, regulatory, and professional standards. + Reviews patients’ treatment plans and parameters as part of a “time out” and quality audit prior to the first treatment and daily checks patient ID, prescription, and dose to date prior to delivery of treatment. + Explains procedures to patients and the means of communication during treatment and procedure in case of an emergency. + Accurately applies skin markings on patient's skin and instructs patients in proper care of markings. + Positions patients and modifies standard procedure to accommodate patients’ conditions. + Reviews and verifies daily treatment time and/or monitor units and delivers prescribed dose while monitoring machine operation. + Maintains visual and/or audio communication with patient during treatment. + Obtains required electronic portal images during prescribed course of treatment according to department standards. These images could include but are not limited to MVCT, KVCT, KV portal image, MV portal image, MV portal image, and MRI image. + Practices radiation protection for the patient, self, and others; applies radiation safety principles. + Assesses and evaluates patients for unusual reactions and/or medical problems and reports conditions to a radiation oncology nurse and/or radiation oncologist. + Performs CT Simulations as needed. + Performs other duties as assigned. + Complies with all policies and standards. **Qualifications** + Bachelor's Degree graduate from an accredited Radiation Therapy program required + 0-1 years clinical experience as a Radiation Therapist preferred **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** + Proficiency in operating radiation therapy equipment. + Strong communication and interpersonal skills. + Knowledge of patient safety and radiation protection principles. + Ability to monitor and assess patient responses to treatment. + Attention to detail in administering accurate radiation doses. + Strong organizational skills to maintain detailed records. + Problem-solving skills to address technical and patient care issues. + Compassion and empathy in patient interactions. + Commitment to continuous learning and professional development. **Licenses and Certifications** + ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Registry in Radiation Therapy required + Licensed Radiologic Technologist As required by state required + BCLS - Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire required Equal Employment Opportunity This organization does not discriminate in any way to deprive any person of employment opportunities or otherwise adversely affect the status of any employee because of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, genetic information, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, citizenship, veteran status, or military or uniformed services, in accordance with all applicable governmental laws and regulations.
