Radiation Therapist II

Radiation therapists implement plans of treatment prescribed by an oncologist and created by a medical dosimetrist. Radiation therapists use accelerators and ionizing-radiation producing equipment to treat diseases, primarily different kinds of cancer. The radiation is administered in therapeutic doses and can send certain localized forms of cancer into remission. It can also be used to prevent the recurrence of particularly malignant forms of cancer after they have been removed during surgery.
A caregiver in this position works 8:00am – 5:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide therapeutic and patient care services to deliver radiation therapy as prescribed by a physician.
Determine and deliver appropriate patient treatment plans in collaboration with physician and dosimetrist.
Monitor and document patient's condition, report any adverse reactions.
Assess and educate patients according to specific department protocols.
Position patients and select anatomic/technical parameters accurately.
Check and adjust necessary equipment, including linear accelerator.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate from a School of Radiation Therapy Technology that is approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEA) or be registry eligible.
Board Certified Registered Radiation Therapist with current state licensure as well as be registered through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
Three years of experience as a Registered Radiation Therapist with demonstrated leadership ability and problem solving skills in Radiation Oncology and/or prior experience with training/education.

Physical Requirements:
Requires extensive sitting and dexterity to perform work on a PC, and the ability to walk to parts of various hospital campuses to attend meetings.
Must have normal or corrected vision, and the ability to verbally communicate to upper level management.
Occasional lifting of 5 to 15 pounds.
