The role
As a Radioactive Waste Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. We’re seeking a Radioactive Waste Engineer to join a friendly and motivated team of people, who are proud to ensure that our management of radioactive waste is compliant and safe, through to disposal. The role will be managed by the team’s Principal Radioactive Waste Engineer, overseen by a wider radioactive waste directorate.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll be ensuring work conducted across the dockyard is undertaken safely and in accordance with our regulatory processes.   

 

To provide waste management expertise in support of the characterisation, processing, sentencing, and packaging of radioactive wastes.  Provision of advice and guidance to major submarine programmes to enable timely treatment and/or disposal of their radioactive waste arisings. Development and implementation of relevant documentation, ensuring compliance with licences and permits relating to radioactive waste through the application of best available techniques assessments. This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

 

Essential experience of the Radioactive Waste Engineer

An applied understanding of radioactive waste management at a nuclear licensed site.  A familiarity of regulatory and environmental legislation in the UK Nuclear Industry.  Numeracy, literacy, and IT proficient.  Excellent writing skills, including the ability to communicate key technical information at various levels. Radioactive waste management experience – Desirable.

 

Qualifications for the Radioactive Waste Engineer

STEM subject degree or equivalent.  

 

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
