The Cardiac Cath Lab Radiologic Technologist under the direction of the Cath Lab Supervisor is responsible for performing the daily operations for the Cardiac Cath Lab. The Cardiac Cath Lab Radiologic Technologist is responsible for direct and indirect patient care, scrubbing for diagnostic\/interventional cases and hemodynamic monitoring. Other departmental duties as assigned, such as: ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, cost efficiency, providing appropriate information towards future needs and actively supports process improvement within the Department. The Cardiac Cath Lab Radiologic Technologist demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of adults and adult-geriatric patients in the Cath Lab. The individual demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient population served. Assumes, under the direction of the Laboratory, responsibility for patient specimen testing, quality control, quality improvement, and equipment maintenance.\n

Roles and Responsibilities:\n\nAssists Cardiologist in performance of diagnostic invasive procedures. Maintains operational knowledge of Cath Lab equipment according to manufactures specifications.\nAssists and performs diagnostic invasive procedures in the Cardiac Cath Lab. Scrubs and assists Cardiologist as requested. Responds to patient distress situations and assists with equipment quality control and inventory management. Prepares sterile trays, instruments, supplies and equipment necessary for procedures, and maintains sterile field. Provides all appropriate services to safely and efficiently complete patient procedures. Maintains knowledge of cardiac concepts and clinical practices. Ensures patients are correctly prepped and draped in a sterile fashion.\nPossesses the knowledge & skills level of basic and complex invasive procedures which may include: Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), stents, IABP placement and operation and peripheral interventions. Responsible for patient safety in the CCL and must be able to recognize cardiac arrhythmias and respond according to emergency protocols, operate external cardiac pacemaker and defibrillator. Intervenes with appropriate therapy in the event of cardiac emergencies.\nMaintains, troubleshoots and operates fluoroscopy equipment to ensure operability and safety. Calibrates equipment and performs routine preventive maintenance procedures.\nAssumes off premise call responsibilities as required to assure complete call coverage.\nCollects all pertinent diagnostic data and all necessary calculations for physician's interpretation of results.\nAssumes off premise call responsibilities as required to assure complete call coverage.\nIs flexible in assuming other appropriate responsibilities not noted above.\n\n
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of Department procedures and protocols.\n\nCapable of setting acquisition factors for optimal image quality.\nCapable of positioning patient for optimal images.\nCapable of following protocols for specific exams\nCapable of evaluating images for quality.\nCapable of accurately following physician's instructions.\n\n
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of Imaging department policies.\n\nConsistently follows patient identification policy.\nUnderstands the correct exam needed and patient factors\nDocuments any changes\/variation to protocol on requisition.\nFollows all P+P regarding use of ISTAT (per sites worked)\n\n

Required Skills and Experience:\n\nEducation: Graduate of an AART Accredited School of Radiologic Technology, receiving an Associates Degree in Radiologic Technology.\nExperience: 2 years experience in Radiologic Technology with 1 Year of Cath Lab\/Peripheral and\/or Interventional Radiology Experience Preferred.\nLicensure\/Registry: Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiology (RT); Required to have or successfully complete American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BLS) training by end of orientation period. Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS). Current NYS License.\nAdditional Skills Required: Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skill validation and competency testing. Pass cardiac dysrhythmias test.\n\n

Preferred Skills and Experience:\n\nProblem solving ability and attention to detail is preferred \nGood written and oral communication skills preferred. \nRequires ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely and adjust to changes in work volumes. \n\n

Physical Requirements:\n\nMust be able to push, pull, bend, safely transfer patients and ambulate without assistance. Job requires standing for prolonged periods and frequently bending\/stooping\/walking. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift\/push\/pull 20 - 50lbs.\n\n

Pay Range Disclosure:\n\nStandard Rate of $36.25 to $45.87 per hour plus benefits\n\n
