We are looking for an experienced Radiological Engineer, will report to the Director of Human Health Performance and Operations supporting Private Astronaut Missions and the development of the first commercial space station. The ideal candidate will be able to hit the ground running and perform personnel ionizing radiation dosimetry, environmental effluent monitoring, statistical trend analysis, interpretation of regulatory requirements, procedure development, research tool development and data management. Additionally, will support the Axiom Space Safety office by performing radiation safety assessments.
**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
+ Support ionizing radiation shielding analyses of Axiom habitable spacecraft, including both geometry and materials, for varying Design Reference Missions as they pertain to crew health and safety.
+ Support astronaut radiation dosimetry, including both dosimeter data reduction and independent dose modeling.
+ Serve as an ionizing radiation Subject Matter Expert (SME) for interpreting radiation safety requirements and associated relevance for engineering design staff.
+ Serve as a health physics SME on various interdisciplinary committees and working groups.
+ Support the production of Axiom radiation safety documentation, to include data reports, white papers, policy and position papers, and standard operating procedures.
+ Support the proctoring/presentation of radiation safety and education courses for astronauts, aeromedical engineers, flight surgeons, and other stakeholders.
+ Support radiation safety assessments, establish dosimetry tracking procedures, and provide regulatory guidance for exposure mitigation and source tracking.
+ Develop knowledge and expertise to serve as a department SME, including learning new tasks to gain deeper knowledge and insight.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.

**Education & Experience**
+ Master’s degree in physics, nuclear engineering, health physics, or related physical science / engineering discipline
+ 5+ years’ experience in radiation protection, radiation control, health physics, radiation safety, radiological engineering, or a combined equivalent of education and experience
+ Possession of National Register of Radiation Protection Technologist (NRRPT) preferred
+ Familiarity with radiation dosimetry, including the radio-biological effectiveness of differing space radiation particle types (LET) as they relate to calculating effective dose to human tissues, organs, and whole-bodies
+ Knowledge of radiation detector theory for both low and high-LET radiation fields
+ Experience proctoring basic radiation safety briefings to general staff and specialists
+ Experience with interpretation and application of regulatory policies for radiation sources and exposures
+ Experience building radiation protection plans, managing dosimetry records, and interfacing with testing facilities to ensure consistency in recordkeeping and dosimetry standards
+ Familiarity with laser and non-ionizing radiation protection concepts and standards
+ Highly proficient in MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
**Essential Functions**
Work Environment: Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
**Requirements**
+ Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
+ Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
+ Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
**Physical Requirements**
+ Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
