Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Radiology Services, performs radiographic procedures to assist in a diagnosis of disease and injuries. The Radiologic Technologist works effectively with patients and patients' families and maintains a cooperative relationship with interdepartmental personnel.

Cross Training is possible if determined that there is a need within the department. If interested, communicate with the Manager/Director prior to cross training. If an employee receives any additional certification, it does not automatically place a Technologist in a multi-modality position.

Multi-modality is defined as being certified in more than one imaging modality. To be in a multimodality position you must have director approval and agree to work in any of the modalities that you are certified for and that there is a need for.


Responsibilities:

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Demonstrates ability to appropriately modify approach and procedures to meet needs of age/diversity of population served for the following age groups:

☒ Neonate (birth – 28 days)

☒ Infant (29 days – less than 1 year)

☒ Pediatric/Child (1 year – 12 years)

☒ Adolescent (12 years – 18 years)

☒ Adult (18 years – 65 years)

☒ Geriatric (over 65 years)

Incorporates cultural considerations in the provisions of care. Knowledge of growth and developmental stages. Considers life changes/effects on health beliefs and behaviors. Provides necessary safety measures. Provides information and involves family/caregiver in decision making.

2. Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the Diagnostic Imaging Department as defined in the scope of practice, to assure that the unique nature of the patient is addressed. This includes, but is not limited to, the age of the patient served.

Positions patient and/or equipment to efficiently obtain high quality radiographs. Select proper scanning procedure for each CT according to radiologist protocols. Perform proper views for each exam according to department protocol. Under direction of a physician, administer appropriate contrast agents according to department protocol and maintain current knowledge of these agents and their indications/contraindications. Ensure appropriate consent forms are signed by the patient or responsible party for contrast procedures. Assist physician/students/technologists with Radiologic procedures. Coordinate procedures with appropriate departments and personnel as needed. Ensure exams are completed in a prompt manner from receipt of requisition, imaging, and interpretation. Review images and adjust technical factors or patient positions as needed to assist in diagnosis. Understands the operation of PACS and RIS system. Maintain skills in performing emergency and routine patient care as required. Utilizes effective patient care and communication skills to obtain optimum patient rapport. Monitor patient condition and take appropriate action to ensure continuity of patient care. Ensure patient comfort, safety and modesty throughout procedures. Monitor the condition of equipment and supplies to ensure safe and efficient operations of the department. Maintain MRI Safety Plan Policy and abide by it. Ensure proper recording and transmission of patient information. Identify images with accurate, complete, and readable information (patient ID information, Lt/Rt, time, supine/upright, etc.) Comply with radiation safety guidelines. Wears film badge to assure compliance with ALARA standards. Maintains cleanliness of rooms, equipment, and other work areas. Perform clerical and receptionist tasks. Assist with the transportation of patients to and from the Diagnostic Imaging Department as required. Must be proficient in Diagnostic Imaging procedures. Assist manager/director as needed. Assist manager/director with all policy and procedures, venipuncture certification and any ongoing training.  

Night shift position will collect data for department quality projects and record data for monthly reporting.  


Hours will be dependent on patient census and workload. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, to include after-hours and weekends as necessary.

The requirements listed below must be representative of the knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION:

Associate Degree required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Basic Life Support (BLS) obtained within one full month from date of hire required.

Current Medical Radiographer license from the State of Nebraska required.

Previous Experience Requirements:

EXPERIENCE:

Previous clinical experience preferred.

Skills/Knowledge Requirements:

SKILLS:

Language Skills – Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language required.

Other Certifications/Requirements: 

American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required.
