Airswift is hiring a Rail Operations Trainer to join one of our clients in the oil and gas sector on a 12-month contract based in Fort Saskatchewan, AB.
The Rail Operations Trainer will report to the Training Manager and be based at a petrochemical complex in Fort Saskatchewan. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining subject matter expertise in Railcar Cleaning and Loading systems, creating and delivering training materials, and supporting the development and maintenance of operational procedures.
Key Activities and Responsibilities:
Consistently perform responsibilities aligned with core values, stakeholder policies, and environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) standards. Develop and deliver training programs in line with industry standards and best practices to ensure operations personnel are equipped to perform safely and compliantly. Establish and maintain a strong understanding of learning theories and principles, applying them to the development of quality training programs. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, legislation, and ethical considerations in the design and implementation of training and development programs, particularly in facility operations, health, safety, and environment. Develop expertise in Rail-related operational areas. Update training manuals and materials to reflect changes from Management of Change (MOC), lessons learned, and shifts in operating philosophy. Support the creation and review of operational procedures. Conduct training needs assessments and identify gaps. Provide training metrics and updates during performance meetings. Deliver fundamental operations training, including reading P&IDs, troubleshooting equipment, and identifying improvement opportunities. Assist with permitting and energy isolation processes and remain updated on procedural changes. Drive consistency within the team in submitting work orders and shift logs. Schedule training sessions and facilitate learning and development activities. Perform administrative duties related to reporting, quality assurance, and maintaining training records and documentation within the Learning Management System (LMS). Support operations during turnarounds and outages as needed. Collaborate on other training initiatives, including providing coverage for team members when required.Education, Skills, and Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of industry-related experience in training development and delivery. Fourth-Class Power Engineering Certificate (or higher) preferred. Experience with large-scale integrated facilities, such as petrochemical or refinery plants, including time as an Operating Technician. Experience in Rail Loading facilities is considered an asset. Familiarity with training team members in Energy Isolation processes is an asset. Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (LMS) is an asset. Post-secondary train-the-trainer certification or education is an asset.
Work Hours:
Full-time, 9x80 schedule (with a Monday–Friday option). As this is a safety- and security-sensitive position, employment will be conditional upon successful completion of pre-employment medical, drug and alcohol testing, driver’s abstract review, employment verification, and criminal background check.
