About the Department
The Strategy & Rare Disease (STARS) organization drives the long-term strategic direction of Novo Nordisk Inc. (NNI)/North America Operations (NAO) and leads all US commercial efforts for Novo Nordisk’s Rare Disease portfolio. The mandate of STARS is to facilitate the development and to coordinate the execution of the long-term strategy, defining a sustainable business model in US beyond a 5-year time horizon. This department serves as the insiders of the US market when informing and help shaping upstream decisions around future investments and assets. The Rare Disease portfolio includes products in the hemophilia and growth disorders therapeutic areas, new products in the pipeline, and products acquired through business development efforts in existing and new areas. The STARS team collaborates and partners with groups across NAO, Research & Early Development, Development, innovation hubs across NN, other affiliates, and global. The Position
The Rare Disease Conventions Lead plays a pivotal role in advancing knowledge and fostering industry engagement within the rare disease community. This position is vital in driving the strategic vision for the Rare Disease Commercial approach and must display strong leadership stills to inspire cross-functional alignment at professional and patient congresses, and involves spearheading the facilitation and coordination of conventions, congresses, networking events, and patient care advocacy initiatives. By doing so, the role aims to engage in platforms for professionals to connect, share insights, and collaborate on initiatives geared towards advancing the understanding, treatment, and support of rare disease patients.
Relationships
Reports to Rare Disease Portfolio Strategy Lead and is key contributor to the Rare Disease Commercial Strategy and Marketing team. Responsible for providing interface with key internal and external stakeholders. This role will closely partner with Field Sales, Commercial Excellence, Medical Affairs, Strategic Partnerships and Engagement, Global Congress and Customer Engagement, Customer Experience and Marketing Enablement, Employee Experience, Communications, and Legal. External relationships include relations with HCP customers, patients, key opinion leaders, and professional societies.
Essential Functions
+ Convention and Stakeholder Management
+ Oversee and manage comprehensive information pertaining to key Rare Disease conventions/events, encompassing registration data, session schedules, speaker bios, exhibitor details, and attendee feedback. Ensure the accuracy, currency, and accessibility of all information for stakeholders as required
+ Efficiently fulfill all conference and speaker contract requirements within designated timelines, collaborating with the marketing team to ensure prompt delivery of all congress materials
+ Proactively identify and recommend conferences and conventions for NNI's participation, strategically aligning with organizational objectives
+ Spearhead representing and managing brand activities at pivotal regional and national Rare Disease conferences, ensuring impactful brand presence and engagement
+ Own the regional sponsorship budget, working closely with organizations to secure sponsorships and driving regional congress plans
+ Actively engage with attendees, sponsors, exhibitors, and partnering organizations to cultivate relationships and optimize participation at Rare Disease events
+ Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, researchers, patients, caregivers, industry partners, and advocacy groups, ensuring their active participation and support for the event
+ Work in tandem with agency partners to develop compelling content for Rare Disease conferences, conventions, and congresses in consultation with marketers/brands to uphold brand objectives
+ Coordinate and manage participation in scientific conferences, symposia, and other pertinent events to elevate brand visibility, knowledge, and engagement with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs). Additionally, oversee educational events and manage materials for medical education programs
+ Strategic Management
+ Thoroughly evaluate physical and virtual convention opportunities based on audience demographics, educational content relevance, and alignment with brand objectives to ensure strategic participation
+ Strategically orchestrate the company's presence to not only meet brand objectives but also to capitalize on ROI opportunities, encompassing meticulous planning of exhibit size and location, virtual presence, sponsorships, and comprehensive on-site and off-site print and digital media strategies
+ Foster seamless collaboration with internal stakeholders to proactively identify synergies and harmonize convention marketing efforts and overall presence for maximum impact
+ Conduct comprehensive analysis of convention trends, market research, competitive presence, attendee audit lists, exhibit results, and other contributing factors to derive actionable insights that drive future participation and strategic opportunities
+ Best Practices and Budget Management
+ Develop annual budgets and scenario planning for Convention Marketing and national convention execution for rare bleeding, renal, and endocrine
+ Oversight of vendor SOWs and invoicing to ensure expenses remain within budget allocations
+ Review monthly and year-end vendor expense reconciliations to ensure spend is aligned with budgeted forecast
+ Manage quarterly rolling estimate (RE) and year-end accrual processes
Physical Requirements
75-80% overnight travel required.
Qualifications
+ A Bachelor’s degree required, MBA-preferred
+ Understanding of Pharmaceutical promotional presence at HCP and Patient Congresses preferred
+ Minimum of 6 years in brand management/marketing experience within the pharmaceutical industry required
+ Experience in sales and/or working on Convention Marketing and/or Speaker Bureau/Medical Education preferred
+ Experience with biopharmaceutical and injectable products is a plus
+ Planning, Execution and Follow-Up - effectively prioritizes and spends his/her time and the time of other on what is important. Develops accurate short and long-term plans
+ Creative, innovative thinker with strong strategic mind-set and understanding of market needs
+ Proven ability to work on cross functional teams
+ Strong communications, project management skills and relationship building capacity to ensure timely execution and appropriate follow up
+ Must exhibit strategic thought and leadership with the ability to think and lead at the big picture level as well as the ability to translate strategic objectives into specific initiatives and manage successful execution
+ Experience in budget management as well as attention to detail and ability to adequately forecast and adjust accordingly required
