The licensed Reading Specialist is responsible for the overall literacy program for general and challenged readers. Additionally, he/she is responsible for providing instructional literacy support to teachers; addressing, evaluating, diagnosing, and implementing specialized and individualized reading programs; and providing leadership as a resource to the educational staff.
+ Assess all students reading levels upon admission and discharge from the school, as well as the beginning and end of the school year.
+ Identify those students in need of remedial reading education
+ Provide individual and/or small group instruction in reading to students in need of remediation.
+ Prepare monthly reports detailing reading levels of students enrolled at the school.
+ Coordinate an effective reading program with classroom teachers.
+ Administer, compile, analyze and report statistical post testing reading data of students’ achievement.
+ Maintain inventory of specialized materials for testing and remediation.
+ Observe literacy lessons and provides feedback to teachers to improve literacy instruction, including planning for ongoing monitoring and support.
+ Assist in scheduling all upcoming Child Study Team meetings with responsible school districts of students/LEAS.
+ Provide notification to approve clinical staff/social workers, school administrators, and teachers regarding upcoming IEP/CST meetings.
+ Upon student arrival, schedule 30 day CST/IEP meetings and report dates of meetings to LDTC/case manager for scheduling purposes.
+ Assess all new students to determine grade level equivalents for reading, spelling and math.
+ Report testing results to instructional staff at Mary A. Dobbins School and responsible school districts of the students for the CST/IEP meetings.
+ Conduct interest interviews with all new students and prepare transition planning sheets for students 14 years and up pertaining to career development and planning.
+ Per students IEP’s provide teaching staff with appropriate classroom modification and strategies pertaining to students’ differentiated education needs.
+ Provide follow up communication on a daily basis with school counselor, administration, clinicians, school social workers and instructional staff regarding upcoming CST/IEP meetings.
+ Assist in training and orientation of new teachers and compiling the required documentation needed for upcoming CST/IEP meetings. Conference at the beginning and end of the school day with School Counselor and LDTC (when in attendance) to review issues pertaining to individual educational plans for students.
+ Collaboratively facilitate IEP meetings conducted at Mary A. Dobbins School with LDTC and Reading Specialist.
+ Assist in the training and orientation of new teachers on preparing required documentation for upcoming.
+ Attend student treatment discharge meetings.
+ Maintain student records in accordance with DOE regulations.
+ Perform all additional duties assigned by the School Principal

Education & Experience:
New Jersey State certification as a Reading Specialist.
