Our hospitals, care sites and clinicians are recognized for clinical and operational excellence. **_Receptionist - Information Services - St Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital_** **THIS IS A COLLECTIVE BARGAINING UNIT POSITION** **Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position (2-3 sentences)** The purpose of the Receptionist/Concierge role is to assure the Mercy mission, by delivering excellent customer service on a consistent basis to all the people we serve. To provide directions, information and assistance to Hospital guests by utilizing excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Answers or refers incoming calls appropriately and assists with concierge duties at Hospital’s main entrance, the surgery waiting room and throughout the hospital. Coordinates and facilitates patient discharge process by assisting and collaborating with patient transport and Mercy police to assist patients exiting the hospital. Functions and serves as the Hospital liaison by handling minor complaints and potential unpleasant situations with families and other visitors. Proactively works to solve problems and meet the needs of Hospital guests or may escalate to others, as appropriate, to help achieve a positive outcome. **Essential Job Functions:** + Greet and provide friendly assistance to all patients, families, and staff. + Answer the telephone calls courteously by identifying self, and title. + Screen, and direct calls to the appropriate individuals, supporting a variety of departments. + Provide written instructions when needed Responds to callers’ inquiry in a timely manner. + Maintain a log of hospital events, meetings, seminars, orientation, etc., in order to assist visitors. + Serve as the gatekeeper, notifying the Mercy police of any suspicious person or behavior. + Must be flexible and able to cover all areas of the main lobby entrance as well as the surgery waiting lobby area. + Keep work and waiting areas neat and organized. Register all guests in the surgery lobby. + Provide lockers, patient identification number and directions to the surgery status board. + Routinely check on surgery lobby guests and update them as needed during the surgery process. + Maintain a collaborative relationship with surgery and recovery staff. + Assign consult rooms and coordinate communication between physician and surgery guests. + Enforce hospital policies regarding visitation, or deliveries in a positive manner + Locate wheelchairs and have them available for patients. + Assist patients with transport arrangements provided by various community serves and placing calls as needed. + Provide necessary assistance during fire alarms or disasters by maintaining lobby traffic. + Secure and lockdown all computer and hospital equipment when not in use. + Participates in department meetings, in-service and mandatory learnings as required.
