Position Summary:

The role of the Peer Recovery Coach is to provide non-clinical services intended to aid individuals in establishing and maintaining individual recovery from addiction and mental illness. The Peer Recovery Coach must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences and to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships. The PRC will help people in recovery to improve their quality of life through connecting them to social, spiritual, and peer supports.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Help clients navigate recovery support systems and access resources including health and wellness, housing, employment, and other professional and non-professional servicesAssist clients in developing an Individual Recovery Action PlanFacilitate peer support groupsProvide recovery education to service recipients for every phase of the recovery journey from pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization and sustained recovery maintenanceAssist clients with applying for health insuranceProvide transportation assistance to and from aftercare treatment and support servicesAssist clients in feeling connected to a Community of Recovery through pro-social, recreational and cultural activities in a sober environmentActively identify and support linkages to community resources (communities of recovery, educational, vocational, social, cultural, spiritual resources, mutual self-help groups, professional services, etc) that support the recovering person's goals and interests. This will involve a collaborative effort including the recovering person, agency staff and other relevant stakeholdersShare personal recovery experiences and demonstrates and models effective coping techniques and self-help strategiesHelp clients to modify attitudes and patterns of behavior by increasing understanding of self, personal problems, and client's part in creating themSupport connections to community based, mutual self-help groups. Link individuals to appropriate professional resources when needed. Provide vision-driven hope and encouragement for opportunities at varying levels of involvement in community based activities (e.g. work, school, relationships, physical activity, self-directed hobbies, etc)Provide clients with ongoing access to education regarding substance abuse, mental health, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, tobacco, nutrition and exercise and other health and wellness informationEducate and support clients in implementing a range of relapse prevention and harm-reduction strategiesWork closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure client needs are metActively participate in weekly supervision with SupervisorServe as a liaison between administration, staff, clients, and volunteers; andOther duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent requiredMinimum 2 years demonstrated personal recovery experience12 months experience, within past 3 years, either paid or volunteer as Peer Recovery CoachBilingual Spanish/English desirableStrong verbal and written communication skills in EnglishKnowledge of community/recovery resourcesAbility to work both as a team member and independentlyUnderstanding of relapse prevention and harm reduction techniquesStrong interpersonal skillsCrisis management skillsComputer skills, minimum Microsoft WordValid Driver's LicenseAbility to meet the physical and training requirements of the position.
