Summary This position will be assigned to the JBSA Fort Sam Houston Equestrian Center located in SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS. This is a flexible category position with no guaranteed hours, may work up to 40 hrs./week. Scheduled as needed. Employees appointed to a flexible (intermittent) category position are not eligible for benefits. Responsibilities Performs and/or assists other recreation assistants in the operation and maintenance of indoor/outdoor recreational facilities. Issues horses/mules and assist in the saddling and unsaddling. Serves as the weekend trail guide. Feeds government and privately own horses. Conducts safety checks on equipment and assist in maintaining facility and equipment to include but not limited to stall cleaning. If necessary, duties could include assisting in the front office; receives patrons and taking payments for trail rides. Qualifying Experience: Must have practical knowledge of equines such as handling, riding and tacking. Familiar with the use of Western/English tack. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's): You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: 1. Ability to safeguard and handle cash. 2. Skill in the use of Point of Sale (POS) system. **NOTE: Those qualified applicants who meet both the minimum qualification requirement(s) and highly preferred criteria(s) will be considered best qualified for this position and will be referred to the selecting official(s) first for consideration.
