Recreation Aid (Trainee-Lifeguard) NF-01
Summary This position is located at Fort Gregg-Adams, VA within the Community Recreation Division - Battle Drive Pool. Responsibilities Note: This is a training position for a certified Lifeguard. Works under close supervision wherein the work is closely reviewed/monitored and detailed guidance provided. Must participate in all required training (emergency rescue drills, emergency action plan simulations). Mandatory certifications must be complete within 30 calendar days of employment. Upon completion of mandatory certifications, the incumbent will be noncompetitively reassigned to Recreation Aid (Lifeguard), PD #3206, responsible for lifeguarding guest in attendance at an assigned aquatic facility. Lifeguarding/First Aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard, YMCA..); American Red Cross "CPR for the Professional; CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED); First Aid. For facilities that use Oxygen Administration "O2 bottles" the O2 Administration certification (American Red Cross "Oxygen Administration or installation offered training (i.e. Fire Dept.) must be obtained within two weeks of reporting for duty. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to swim and participate in the lifeguard certifications. What's needed to be considered 'Guard Ready': You need to be 15 by the last scheduled day of your class. Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. You may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Swimming on the back or side is not allowed.This is the only portion of the class where swim goggles are allowed. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.Starting in the water, swim 20 yards with your face out of the water. Goggles not allowed. Surface dive, feet-first or head- -pound dive brick. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to the starting point with both hands holding the brick, keeping your face at or near the surface so you are able to get a breath. You should not swim the distance under water. Candidates must exit the water without using a ladder or steps. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. You should place your hands under your armpits or behind your head. Pay-Band (NF or CY) Allowances and Differentials: This is a pay-banded position. Sunday premium pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. If authorized, only regular (full-time, part-time, limited tenure and seasonal) employees may be paid Sunday premium pay. When authorized, Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday). Night differential may be authorized by the Garrison Commander.
