Job Overview:

Under the supervision of a Child Life Specialist or Recreational Therapist, plans and implements diversional recreation services to assist with alleviating the effects of hospitalization and or improve quality of life. Maintains program areas and supplies.

Qualifications:

Required:

High school diplomaPrevious work experience with children with special needs or previous experience with children. Ability to plan activities and adapt to the environment to suit a variety of disabling conditions. Tact, enthusiasm, initiative and judgment in performance of duties. Flexibility related to scheduled hours each week is required to meet patient needs. Valid drivers license required.

Preferred:

Higher Education preferred.Experience working with challenging behaviors is preferred.

Certifications and Licenses Required:

AHA BLS Provider Certification

Essential Functions:

Demonstrates knowledge of developmental and diagnosis and is able to apply it in daily practice.Cleans departmental equipment and organizes closets as designated in the competency expectations, following established timelines, taking initiative to organize and clean other areas when needed.Monitors and maintains inventory of general supplies and equipment as designated in competency expectations, ordering supplies in an accurate timely manner.Assists department staff in planning and implementation of therapy groups, special events and community trips.Communicates effectively with patients, families and staff.Orients and supervises assigned volunteers and community groups according to hospital policy.Ability to assess and evaluate overall patient level of functioning to determine appropriate activities and adaptations.Performs other duties as assigned based on need of departmentMaintains a safe environment for patient care activitiesIn LTC programs, completes required documentation on day of serviceImplements diversional recreation activities and opportunities for a variety of ages and abilities
