The primary purpose of this position, RECREATION ASSISTANT, NK-0189-02, is to under the supervision of the Events Center Manager, assist in scheduling and managing a broad range of community activities, special events, classes, conferences, meetings and other facility use requirements. Responsibilities -Assist in the planning, implementation, development, coordination and administration of a broad range of community activities, special events, classes, conferences, meetings and other facility use requirements which are diversified and serve a participant community of active duty, retired military, reserve forces, authorized civilian employees and their dependents. -Perform the duties of assistant facility manager and direct facility maintenance and daily upkeep for Community/Special Event/Family Recreation Center and Base Theater. -Assist in the marketing and publicizing community/family recreation programs. -Assist the Director with the execution of and administration of operating budget. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-0189, Recreation Aid and Assistant Series. ONLY EXPERIENCE OBTAINED BY THE CLOSING DATE OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at a level close to the work of this position that has given them the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform. Typically, we would find this experience in work within this field that is closely related. To be creditable, the specialized experience must have been equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04), pay band or equivalent. Examples of specialize experience include (1) group leader, counselor, or similar work in public and private recreation programs for adults or children such as summer camps, local playgrounds, YWCA and YMCA clubs, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, urban community centers, or resort recreational activities; (2) teacher's aide in elementary school recreation or physical education program, with emphasis on development of general recreational skills and abilities; (3) aide or assistant assignments in recreation while on active military service; (4) aide or assistant in the organization and administration of recreation activities, such as preparing activities calendars, maintaining attendance records, and providing information concerning schedules and activities. Note: In-service applicants can qualify with at least 1 year of specialized experience at either the next lower level (GS-04) or the second lower level (GS-03). However, for outside applicants (i.e., those without current or prior Federal competitive or excepted service), 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower level is required. OR EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Successfully completed a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in courses related to recreation or physical education. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of the basic principles, procedures, and practices of operating a community recreation programs, special events and family recreational programming. 2. Knowledge of common budgetary practices, procedures, regulations, and guidelines. 3. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures as relating to various recreation activities and facility management operations. 4. Skill in preparing forms, schedules, and reports related to the obligation and expenditure of funds. 5. Skill in planning, organizing, coordinating, and/or evaluating recreation programs and facility maintenance. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
