JOB SUMMARY:
The Recreation Counselor Lead position is an integral part of the camper's visit, providing an experience beyond all expectations by fostering enthusiasm, creativity and fun. You will execute and support all aspects of recreation including overall programming, appropriate use of facilities, repair/maintenance, and staff/camper schedules. The goal is to ensure a high-level entertainment during each activity, and make sure staff and participants are engaged and participating in a responsible and safe manner. The Recreation Counselor Lead will be responsible for oversight of the safety, vibe, and cleanliness of the facilities used around camp.

This position is classified under California's Camp Counselor exemption (LAB 1182.4 and Wage Order 5). Employees are paid a weekly salary of 85% of their hourly rate for hours worked between 40- 56 hours per week or will be paid at 85% of their hourly rate for each hour worked if the employee works less than 40 hours per week. Any hours worked over 56 will be paid at overtime rates, in accordance with California labor law.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Overall
Maintains Woodward safety logs, operational sheets and incident logs
Attend camper orientation to introduce rules, regulations, and locations for recreation
Assist in facilitating recreation schedules
Support social and content ideas for recreation
Ensure all inventory needs are met for supplies and equipment
Passionate People
Assist in recruiting new and returning staff via applications, social media resources and industry relevant areas
Train and develop staff ensuring safety and guest experience are executed to Woodward standards
Ensure each employee position can demonstrate appropriate skills upon completion of training
Develop staff schedules and communicate appropriately
Verify recreation staff has the appropriate tools, supplies and equipment to carry out their job duties
Lead weekly meetings to discuss current topics and safety topics
Review and monitor evaluations and observation reports for recreation staff
Knowledgeable in working with and engaging youth ages 7-17
Assist with guest requests and needs in a timely manner
Facilities and Equipment
Execute daily maintenance and perform weekly and monthly checks for all recreation courses, facilities and equipment
Attend to the safety and maintenance needs for all recreation courses and equipment
Maintain an organized and safe environment for guests and staff
Carry out and support all adventure operations/maintenance needs including but not limited to:
The Pool
The Rock Wall
The Bowling Alley
Support and oversee all activities throughout the campus:
Social Events
Create-A-skate
Arts and Crafts
Keep detailed records for all projects and maintenance schedules
Provide a feedback report to evaluate, evolve, and elevate all courses and equipment
Other duties as assigned.PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/SPECIAL SKILLS:
3+ years of experience working in recreation or programming
1+ years of experience working with kids and/or teens
Experience working in a camp environment is preferred
High school degree or equivalent preferred
Ability to collaborate well across functions and departments, to work as part of a team
CPR/First Aid Certification
California Mandated Reporter Certification
Ability to project manage and prioritize multiple tasks at the same time
Strong interpersonal skills. Able to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Is creative. Can conceptualize ideas. Can think "outside the box". Has the ability to implement ideas.
Proven ability to collaborate well across functions and departments, to work as part of a team
BASIC SCHEDULE/REQUIREMENTS:
FBI and DOJ fingerprint screening required.
Physical Capabilities: bend, twist, push, pull, stand, lift 50lbs.
Must be comfortable working in an outdoor and indoor all-season environment.
Adhere to all workplace safety practices, expectations, and guidelines
Ability to work weekends, holidays, evenings
Develop a mindset to always help or cross train with all staff and departments
