RECREATION SPECIALIST

The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Supervisory Sports Specialist, Sports Programs Manager, and Operations Manager in the planning, managing, and administering comprehensive, year-round Installation USAF fitness and sports programs. This position will perform these duties in support of Hill AFB Fitness and Sports Program. Responsibilities Program core group exercise classes and enhanced services. Plan, promote, and direct special events. Accountable for fitness facility inspections, equipment, and supplies inventory. Perform varied shift work duties. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Recreation Specialist Series 0188 In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least 3 years of general experience, 1 year of which is equivalent to Federal experience at the next lower grade (GS-04), level, pay band (NH-01), or equivalent (pay schedule, pay band, etc). General experience is described as: assisting with the execution of fitness programs or events by using the principles, methods, and techniques of recreation, and an understanding of the interests of individuals or groups; aided in performing individual health risk appraisals, comprehensive fitness assessments, and proper exercise techniques for cardiovascular and resistance equipment and performing training for others. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. OR EDUCATION: Successful completion of a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a Major study in -- general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreation (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.); or physical education. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: have equivalent combinations of successfully completed post high school education and experience that provided the knowledge of one or more of the appropriate fields of recreation. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of mission and function of Fitness Programs to competency and independently executes continuing fitness programs or events through the proper application of the principles, concepts and techniques of fitness programs. 2. Knowledge of program and facility management, safety, fire and environmental regulations, practices, and procedures, as well as facility design and equipment selection and purchase. 3. Knowledge of the range of activities and services, of participant interests and needs, and of the methods and processes that enable the employee to plan and conduct a variety of fitness activities. 4. Ability to meet and communicate effectively with leaders, supervisor, co-workers and customers in order to achieve fitness program goals. 5. Ability to read, interpret and apply DoD, Agency, Air Force, AFMC, and local policies and directives. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, kneeling, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items up to 45 lbs. A primary fitness certification approved by the Air Force (American College of Sports Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association, National Academy of Sports Medicine, National Exercise Trainers Association or similar is recommended, but not mandatory. Additional Information Hill Air Force Base provides worldwide engineering and logistics management for the F-16 Fighting Falcon, A-10 Thunderbolt II, and the Minuteman III ICBM, and performs depot maintenance of the F-16, A-10, and C-130 Hercules aircraft. The base is located between Ogden and Salt Lake City. The area is known for year round activities, including skiing, hiking, boating, extreme sports, fishing and hunting, with four distinct seasons, low humidity and moderate snow fall in the valley. This is an acquisition demonstration project position NH-02 equivalent to a GS-05 to GS-11.
