**Referral Specialist (Ref Spc) - Physician Office - Patterson Avenue Family Practice - Richmond, VA**
**Job Summary:**
Process all incoming and outgoing referrals, manage physician office schedules and provide back-up to Front Office.
**Essential Functions:**
+ Provide support and fill in for any non-clinical staff based on immediate needs due to work flow overload or employee absence.
+ Assist office manager in training new non-clinical employees.
+ Handle incoming phone calls and messages from patients.
+ Process all incoming referrals (through EMR system, faxes, phone calls)
+ Process all outgoing referrals ordered by providers.
+ Schedule all patient incoming referral appointments.
+ Assist clinical staff in resolving scheduling issues as requested.
+ Coordinate necessary medical records, lab and radiology results for appointment.
+ Process payments to office as needed.
+ Handle reminder calls to patients for appointments/testing/exams.
+ Work with the Office Manager to problem solve and implement improvements.
**Education:**
+ High School diploma or equivalent.
**Experience:**
+ 2 years’ experience in a medical office setting required.
+ Ability to operate office equipment to include computer, fax machine and copiers, and familiarity with practice management and EMR systems.
+ Knowledge of medical terminology.
