Apprentices (Levels 1 – 5) Installation Mechanics

The role(s) focuses primarily on the installation of commercial refrigeration systems and all the underlying components and controls.  Specifically, this includes: 

General: Placement and installation of supermarket cases, coils, racks as well as related equipment & components.  Completing a through commissioning / start-up process of the newly installed equipment that includes system pressure testing, evacuation and refrigerant charging and commissioning of the system(s). Removal of existing equipment, which may involve the removal of refrigerant, cutting and the removal of refrigerant piping, disconnection of controls and de-energized wiring & circuitry. Ability to cut materials, manufacture and mount supports for refrigerant piping and other system components related to supermarket & commercial refrigeration. Mounting refrigerant piping and any other components securely to supports. Fitting, brazing and insulation of piping. Pressure testing and evacuating of systems. Ability to charge systems with refrigerant according to manufacturer’s recommendations while adhering to Ministry of the Environment standards. Perform, and / or assist in the start-up of systems and check operations of all components. Keep work site tidy and organized at all times.  Keep tools in safe and in good working order. Performs work in accordance to established processes and practices in compliance with all internal and external requirements including, but not limited to environmental, health and safety, fire protection. Maintains quality and accurate inventory of all assigned tools/equipment and arranges for repair and replacement where required. Submits all paperwork in an organized manner on a weekly basis. Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Strong ability to adhere and to properly execute processes and practices relating to all aspects of the equipment installation process. Ability to competently braze refrigeration piping. Possesses a strong environmental, health and safety mindset along with the ability to perform work in a safe manner and also work with others. Effective communication skills. Interpretation of blueprints is an asset. Stainless Steel TIG welding is an asset. Individuals that have successfully completed a recognized pre-apprenticeship or trade related program and not yet a registered apprentice may be considered.

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

Apprentice Level 1 - 5 is required. O.D.P. License is an asset. Valid Ontario “Full G” driver’s license.
